What does this parable mean to you?

Does it speak of eternal punishment and reward?

Luke 12

35"Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, 36like men waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him. 37It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes. I tell you the truth, he will dress himself to serve, will have them recline at the table and will come and wait on them. 38It will be good for those servants whose master finds them ready, even if he comes in the second or third watch of the night. 39But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into. 40You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him."
41Peter asked, “Lord, are you telling this parable to us, or to everyone?”

42The Lord answered, "Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom the master puts in charge of his servants to give them their food allowance at the proper time? 43It will be good for that servant whom the master finds doing so when he returns. 44I tell you the truth, he will put him in charge of all his possessions. 45But suppose the servant says to himself, ‘My master is taking a long time in coming,’ and he then begins to beat the menservants and maidservants and to eat and drink and get drunk. 46The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the unbelievers.

47"That servant who knows his master’s will and does not get ready or does not do what his master wants will be beaten with many blows. 48But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.

As I told you on this thread, forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=272059 I answered you there yesterday; go look. 😃

.

:rotfl:

I bet you did.

If you can find it, post it here.

Otherwise, I’ll just assume you can’t answer the question while maintaining Calvinist dogma.

I understand.
Say Goodnight, CHESTERTON.

“Goodnight CHESTERTON.”

I was interested in your answer but when I went to this thread I saw it had 51 pages!!! I wasn’t that interested:eek:
I said it yesterday; it’s not that hard to find; CHESTERTON’S being stubborn, and he’s trying to put me on the spot, but he can’t. :nope: 😃

The question he asked, “what does this mean to a Calvinist?”

I just don’t want to go scanning through the threads.

Is it such a difficult question to answer?

I think its pretty sad that you can be all high and mighty over the internet but if you went and talked to a priest you would likely just give up. so what if we are lazy and dont want to go and find your post? if you were truly wanting to help people see the “truth” you would take the time to repost it. but instead you just post nonsense and ad a few smiley animations. how immature.

Yea, I’m so high-and-mighty I started a thread to try and put CHESTERON on the spot.

As far as talking to a priest, my grandparents had a lifelong friend in the LA archdiocese, now deceased, who was a Monsignor at the time of his death. We spoke at different times, it was he who had the difficulty against my positions, and he admitted it.

Face to face discussions are far better than internet discussions.

Well i guess i get where your coming from. But on this site (most of us…) take it seriously. Whether its to put you on the spot or not, you should still answer the question.

I have, go look, it was yesterday, and I found in 30 seconds.

ok ill find it. but what im trying to say is that even though we disagree i know that to you you are preaching the truth, and you will run into some pretty thick headed people. you must be ready to answer the same question over and over again. peace.

A certain phrase that became popular during the Vietnam War comes to mind right now. 😉

yah that does make sense. well this thread is dead. lol. later.
Why aren’t more Protestants trying to answer this? I would like to understand their perspectives, even though they would likely have differing viewpoints. But I can understand why this question is more directly asked to Calvinists.

The other word that comes to mind is “peace.” It hasn’t gotten too nasty yet, but some may interpret this as being less than charitable. And charity, even with those who seem disagreeable, is a superior theological consideration.

God bless
