Question for SSPX members and others

I would petition them to build a parish here and I would instantly begin to consider a vocation with them.

An authentic vocation exists outside of whether they have a parish near you or not.

An authenitic vocation would not be stopped by lack of a bus ticket to wherever they have a seminary.

Eventually I’d get around to it, but right now I have other TLM’s that are more convenient.

I like Benedict, My wife hates it. I like Faustina, Wife, hates it. She likes Peter Roman or Cecilia.
She won the name battle for our other three, but I swear I’ll win this one!
For a girl I would pick Candida (by itself means blinding white but when referred to a woman it means innocent, pure). St. Candida was a martyred closed to where I grew up.

I’m not sure how you understood that I think a priestly vocation is predicated on whether or not the SSPX have a parish near me. I would just like to have one here so that I can attend their Masses. I’m also having trouble as yet finding priests who I can talk to in a very straightforward manner about certain things; I have a certain thirst for general Catholic knowledge that isn’t being met by the catechetical programs and priests here. There are three diocesan parishes upstate that I am very jealous of liturgically and catechetically, but I am not quite close enough to them.

As much as I admire the SSPX apostolate, I wouldn’t join an irregular priestly society.

I am sure everyone on this forum is tired of discussing the SSPX - so many threads have been started concerning the recent talks with Rome. I hate to start another one, but I really want to know what impact any ā€œreconciliationā€ will have on non-SSPX members and those who do not attend SSPX Masses.

If the talks go well and the SSPX becomes a personal prelature or something similar, would you consider attending Mass said by an SSPX priest? If so would you attend regularly? Funerals/Weddings? If you are thinking of holy orders would you consider being trained by the SSPX or joining their Sisters or Brothers? In short, how would a good outcome of the current talks affect you?

(PS - sorry if this question has been directly asked already - I have seen comments touch this on other threads)
I would love to go to an SSPX house regularly. My future wife is no fan of the EF, however, so that seems like it won’t be a regular option. Maybe I could sneak out on Saturdays for it, then we can go to OF masses together on Sundays. šŸ˜‰

Oh…

Based on your last sentance here, I see now that a vocation would be predicated on regularization, not proximity. I thought it was a bit odd.

I get it. My bad. Sorry.

Perhaps those who would like to attend but are not anyway close would consider attending a retreat run by the Society of Saint Pius X some time. I know the SSPX have many large retreat houses which, if regularized by the Vatican, would be of benefit to all Catholics. They run ignatian retreats for men and women which may not be offered in some dioceses.

Is that where we get the word ā€œcandidā€ from?

Fascinating. I like the name Charlene but alas, no saint. And we wanted keep the tradition going. Our first two daughters are Madeline and Sophie after St Madeline Sophie Barat
Our third is Clara.

Charlene goes with St.Charle Borromeo and Bl. Charles de Faucauld

You can go with Clare’s sister, St. Agnes of Assisi

I’ve been going to the same parish for nine years, no reason to stop now. They probably wouldn’t want me around anyway.

There is an SSPX chapel here in Las Vegas. I attended one Mass there (Sunday morning, after I fulfilled the obligation at the vigil the night before at my own parish). In his homily, the priest called the OF an ā€œabominationā€ā€¦he said it twice. I doubt I’ll be visiting his parish much, assuming he is one whose relationship with the Church may be regularized soon. I’d go to weddings and funerals, certainly, but not much else.

I’m not sure it’d make a huge difference. We live roughly equidistant from 2 FSSP parishes and there is also an SSPX chapel about 15 minutes further out than the other 2. For me I do have a hard time imagining going to an SSPX when the FSSP parishes give me the same thing without the willful disobedience.

Basically it comes down to the example they set. Both the FSSP priest I know have some of the same concerns as the SSPX, but they chose obedience and figured out how to work within the confines of the Church rather than separating themselves. That just seems a better example to me.
Amen! I also have the option of an EF Mass said by priests who are in communion with Rome and always have been.

I am hopeful for the reconciliation because I pray for full unity, but I am also concerned about the formation of priests (and laity) who have grown up hearing that men like Bl. JP II and Pope Benedict are ā€œmodernistsā€ or other pejoritive terms.

Yes, it comes the Latin ā€œcandidusā€ that comes from the Latin verb ā€œcandereā€ (to be white) that comes from the protoindoeuropean root ā€œkandā€ to shine and that is also where the word candle comes from.

I love etymology!

(and entomology, also, to a certain degree… bring on the bugs and their Latin names!)
