DaveBj,Wasn’t my question, but thanks for the information, especially that the word means “repent” and not “do penance.” It’s the same in the Greek – “repent” (literally, to change one’s way of thinking about something), not “do penance.”
I’m not sure I see any significant difference between “penance” and “repent/repentance”. It seems to me that these English words, derived from a common origin, are equivalent to one another.
