Title says it all

As a single youngin It would be fun to see how some of the catholic couples found each other. Those who dont mind sharing their story, please do
We met at the Catholic student center at college. It’s a great place to meet someone like minded. Our 30th anniversary is this week.

I was her boss, but transferred and then we started dating. The transfer was for different reasons. I recommend dating women who are your subordinates, that way they are already used to doing what you tell them to in case you get married.
 Are you serious?

My wife and met though a dating service. This was before the Internet. Had to go in, fill out a bunch of forms and have your picture taken. That was 28 years ago. We dated for three years. We celebrated our 25th this year.

Living in my first scary apartment after college, during my first year as a teacher, he moved in right next door. We spent a lot of time hanging out on the porch after work each day. We talked about how stupid it would be to date someone who’s front door was just two inches over from your own, but here we are married with 2 kids, so it all worked out.

Wow. I hope she knows how you feel.

I did meet my husband at work. But we worked in different departments. We also kept our dating private while we worked there. We didn’t want people talking about us.

We have been married 20+ years.

I really hope this is a joke, though given what I’ve read on CAF in the past… I’m not so sure.
I don’t know if it is a joke, but I thought it was funny. Of course she doesn’t do what I tell her, but we’re working on that. She doesn’t realize how much better it would be.

I was going to vote internet, but we didn’t meet on a dating site. We met on a forum, and didn’t even really become friends until after meeting in person.

online dating for us.

Hubby and I met on Match.com specifically for dating purposes. He was the second date I went on from that site and I was his first.

We hit it off instantly and have been together for almost 6 years…married for almost 2.

It appears many do not marry the boyfriend/girlfriend they have/had during secondary school and/or university.
What is the essence of these romantic relationships without the view or anticipation of marriage?
Should adolescents avoid them?
Thats a little off-topic, but seeing as the marriage rate for highschool/college romances is at 20% (the highest rate for any category) I think its a little premature to say that many do not marry the boy/girlfriend from highschool/college. It looks like there is in fact a high percentage who do, relatively. 🤷

I met my husband online, but not in a matchmaking service/online dating. I voted “high school/college” because we met in a forum for students who attended our school. We met in person about a year later (amazing, tiny campus, and we had a lot of mutual friends, but we never ran into each other until our second year.)

I was not Catholic at the time, he was. I converted, but not* just* for him. 😉

My husband converted too but “not for me” either. In fact when we had our 3rd baby Baptized, he asked Fr. about taking instructions. I was soo surprised. But he went to Church with us so not really surprised. Just that he never said a word to me ahead of time. God Bless, Memaw

People simply change between high school and adulthood and sometimes they change in different directions? Or one person changes and the other one stays in high-school-mode? 🤷

I have to say as someone discerning my vocation the preliminary poll results concern me. Why is it that marriages are not appearing through the church activities? For one side it is good that probably people is being converted at least partially thanks to marriage. But I would think that for people hoping to marry a Catholic, the parish would be the perfect place. Apparently I am wrong.

We met in high school and were part of the same circle of friends.

We did not date until we were in college and even then it started off as “let’s just give it a try for the summer and see what happens”. He was interested in a more involved relationship but was willing to let it go if I was not interested. I actually wasn’t romantically attracted to him. I just didn’t want to be an old spinster wallowing in cat allergens and tortured by thoughts of “what-if I dated my best friend way back when?”. At least something could be done about the 3rd item.

Obviously things progressed.

We met on the internet in a chatroom…we were both single again…
met several ladies beforehand …but the first time face to face I said no…
the first time I saw Helen I said yes… Thank God she did too…

In my country… Our parish has a gap in its activities.
There are activities for children and high school students. There are activities for the elderly.
If you are under 6 or 25-50, there is nothing for you.
We asked when we came here and there was nothing. We could join a “youth” group, we wouldn’t be turned away, but we’d be 10 years older than the rest of the group. They don’t even have a group for parents or something, parents of school children socialize in events for their school children, but that’s it.
In the neighbouring parishes the situation is mostly the same.

I’ve approached our priest to try to start something, as a volunteer since I’m unemployed right now and would love to help out somehow, and he seemed interested at the time, but now I can’t catch him for a follow-up, he doesn’t answer my calls. (And it’s been weeks.)

The only activity in the neighbouring parishes in which I might be able to participate is tutoring for kids with school problems, but that is only a “might” because they want primarily college students, but since I am not that much older, they might accept me. But there you only see kids and parents, so again there isn’t much chance to meet someone compatible.
