For those that are Roman Catholic, have you ever felt a call to Eastern Catholic monasticism or has it always been to Western? I’m a bit curious about this, so any insights would be much apreciated.

I am thinking of monastic life, and have an interest in Eastern Catholicism. The Basilian order, who are Eastern in practice but for historical and political reasons ended up as an Eastern order inside the Latin Church might be of interest to you:

I can’t find the reference right now, but I think the Holy Father said something recently discouraging Latin Catholics from transferring to Eastern canonical rites. I think he was more concerned about people who go to Byzantine liturgy out of curiosity, or because it’s out of the ordinary, (which is insulting to the Eastern rites as well as the West) rather than those who feel a genuine call to the Eastern rites. That being said, the Basilians only say you have to be Catholic, you don’t need to transfer canonical rite, to the best of my knowledge.
The Carmelites also have a strong Eastern influence in their spirituality, so you may want to explore that.

I do not beleive the Pope has said anything. Generally transfers from Eastern Catholic churches to the Latin church are discourged, but I have not heard about transfers from latin to any eastern one. It would be a bit strange if that were the case since both the pastor of my mission and one of the deacons are transfers from latin to the UGCC. Obviously one should be sincerely called to an Eastern church’s theology and spirituality if one makes a request to transfer.
It is not required to recieve a canonical transfer to join any Catholic religious order.

Just a bit new here, however I saw your thread and it reminded me of bumps in my own monastic journey years ago. Back when I was around seventeen-eighteen I was drawn to the russian orthodox faith or more to the point “hesychasm monasticism”. However after over a year of contemplation and research I found that my pull towards this path was truly superficial and what I truly sought (meditative and contemplative prayer, etc…)was found among the trappist order which I visited in Huntsville Utah. I hope this may help you in some way.

Always been Western for me. There’s not enough Latin in the East
If I were to pursue a monastic vocation, I would want to go to a monastery the celebrated the Traditional Latin Mass. This, however, has become hard to find.
Also, is it true that Eastern Monks refrain from shaving facial hair?

Yes. Rules general vary from monastic house to monastic house. Generally one’s hair is not cut either.
