Did anyone see changes in their marriage after the convaildation? My husband and I have been married 4 years and had our Convaildation a year ago on our 3rd anniversary. For me I feel like we are closer then ever. We fight less, I feel more in love with him and I feel more satisfied. Yes we have been tempted more but I feel like we wpuldnt have made it through that temptations and turbulence if we had not had it. Anyone else feel the same way?

For those who do not know a convaildation is taking a non-sacramental marriage and making it sacramental. Couples who have convaildations are ones who for one reason or another were not married in the church.

For me my husband and I eloped and at the time I had no faith. A few years into our marraige I made the choice to return to the catholic church that I was raised in. So in order for our marrige to be valid in the eyes of the church so I could receive communion, we had to have this done.

Certainly the grace of the sacrament of Marriage brought these blessings to you! May you continue to grow in the grace of the Lord together.

Having the convalidation a few months ago has brought me peace now that I can receive the sacraments again and am in good standing with the Church. My wife is still non-practicing but has been happy and pleased that I have such progress with my vices.

My real changes began when my husband announced to our priest at our 3rd son’s baptism that he would like to become a Catholic. He started taking instructions and he loved them. He had much contact with the faith before as he did go to Mass with us much of the time and My Mom had a great influence on him. The evening he was Baptized our Marriage became a Sacrament. We were both very happy and it showed in our relationship. He died a year later in a sudden accident and I am sooo thankful he was a loving practicing Catholic and had just been to Confession and Mass a couple days before. God Bless, Memaw

Our Convalidation was 11 years ago, and we had been married civilly for 11 years when we did it.

I really didn’t see a change. 🤷

Now, my husband and I have always been extremely close. People have called us bookends, peas in a pod and Siamese twins. I don’t know that we could be any closer.

I am glad you are closer to your husband. And that you were able to have your marriage convalidated.

My wife and I saw no difference, simply because we viewed the convalidation as the Church recognizing that which already exists.

My husband and I have always had a strong bond but our Convaildation just made it stronger. Being able to make our marraige sacramental was amazing as well as being able to receive communion again.for me I though our marraige was strong at first and the convaildation only made it stronger.

To clarify, a convalidation is making a non-valid civil marriage valid. And if both people are baptized, it is then a sacrament. So then grace from the sacrament would then kick in.

(Non-baptized people can have valid marriages, but non-sacramental marriages).

That may have been why our marriage didn’t change.

I was actually still receiving Communion, simply because I wasn’t aware that I shouldn’t. At the time we got married, I was unaware that I was suppose to be married “in the Church.”

So, like you, the Church was simply recognizing what I already considered valid.

We had our marriage convalidated during our RCIA journey a few years back. Through no fault of our own, I broke the marriage laws of the Catholic Church and so my marriage was not valid (I had been baptized Catholic as an infant but not raised in the Church, so when my husband and I were converting, we realized we were not actually married). The process of conversion and convalidation changed EVERYTHING. Although we had already been married for many years, it really feels like the beginning of a marriage, as opposed to just a civil union or cohabitation, was from the moment we said our vows before God in the Catholic Church.
