Under. It is not necessary to wear them outside as a witness to faith. Your life, lived in accord with your baptismal vows, which the various scapular devotions are meant to aid and encourage, is enough. 😉

it wouldnt be wrong. but ud wanna tie a knot on the back end so the knot is the near the knape of ur neck (at least thats how i did it when i wore it over my clothes for 2days lol it just became to awkward after a while. an outward witness to the faith is aided by the scapular, not the scapular itself

I wear it both ways; it’s a great conversation starter for people who have absolutely no idea what it is (and a chance to witness).

That’s the way I see it scriabin I don’t feel it wrong and if it serves as a witness to people then that makes it all the more good if it reminds people of God.

I do wear mine on the inside, and when dressed up and other jewelery is worn, i attach it to my bra strap, then tuck it into the bra near my heart.

I have no idea if this is a valid way to wear it, but i do not believe the adoration of the blessed prommise is invalid on these ocasions. I do not know the difference or the laws bound around it, but i simply find solace in wearing it.

I also want to buy a gold scapular medal, so that i can wear it on a chain around my neck with my crucifix. Then i do not have to ever take it off. I do believe that this is a valid scapular in this format if i am not mistaken.

Lastly, what brings me to this topic is the need to get answers from a person of athority on this matter. First off, it is not just information i am after, but completion of a situation in my heart that is quite sentimental and holds great spiritual importance to me.

Here goes…my son was an avid wearer of the brown scapular and he was also terminally ill. He loved life so much, and lived his life for Gods love of him…they were never apart. He contracted strep throat and died two months latter from it, but not his terminal illness. We, as usual, went to the hospital when he could not breathe well. Usually in two to four days, he was sent home feeling better. The last visit to the hospital, we went there feeling scared of his heart rate of 270 beats, then down to 40 beats…unaware it was from the strep dammage to the heart. He was completely unaware of the danger, as was i, and as they searched for the reason, he was so tired, and asked for his stuff…I had forgotten his personal belongings which had included his scapular. He was upset but did not show it. He exclaimed that it was bad timming to be in danger and be without it. He did not think of it as a good luck charm, but honestly believed in the reasons behind it, and his devotion to it.

He died without it on, and i wonder if the situation deletes his devotion to it, or the promises in it. BTW he was nearly 19, and fully aware of his spiritual journey and completely understood it.

Could you help me understand the finality of this situation please?

Dear Rammy,

I don’t believe our loving Blessed Mother stands on ceremony in a situation like this. Your son’s desire, the way I see it, to be wearing it because of his devotion, is the same as if he was wearing it.

God bless…

I was hopeing, but was told brutally that i can not wish the rules to wrap around my interpretation…scarry info, but i keep looking for proof…even though my heart is comfortable with your answer. I still have to face the truth if it is different though.

Whoever told you this must not understand the love of Our Lady or the compassion of God. Our Blessed Mother is not so legalistic that she’d forget one of her devoted sons who didn’t have his scapular due to circumstances which where beyond his control.

I wear mine under. I have to replace it about once a year due to sweat, wear and tear ect. I’m gettin’ close, I’ve got about three in the bull pen ready to go ! 😃 I’ll just have to transfer my St. Benedicts medal and my Miraculous medal to the scapular and I’m ready to go.

How sweet of you to say. It was actually on another scapular thread back a few months ago, and i was told of how priests taking them off to shower was the reason one fell and died…brutal, so i did not get an answer then, and have higher hopes of that person not finding this thread. It is hard to converse with an angry person. Well not angry, but so full of rules, that being right was more important than scaring the daylight out of me.

But i did recover…lol! Recently i found out the nescesity of confessios said to a priest for a catholic…I was so unaware…i thought it was for if you needed help from the priest to get the format down. So, here i am, after my son has died, with this huge revelation…i did not teach him this, it is my fault if he has so many sins on his soul, and i may have prevented his entry into heaven.

let me tell you, i was heartbroken. Since then i learned that being unaware of the sin meant that it would not be a sin to him then. He was very accountable to his Lord. He wanted to be a Drama and Religion teacher for high school…he did not want to not spread his love for God. Mostly to help them find thislove.

My babydoll, my Will…funny how often i cry out baby to him, yet never did in life…kinda in a sweetheart context. I do miss his stance as the lookout in life, ready to take on the world. He struggled every day to breathe, threw up, could not walk far, and would simply get over it, and move on with each episode in his day. He was the partner in life i will never ever get…it really helps if you are on the same page towards life and God.

He was a Joy, a nut bar, a cool big brother to his sisters, and the friend i never had…he was my other half of my heart…this is why it pains me so to have it missing. The absence will never go away. It will be my challenge to learn to learn to go on…with out my son Will.

Dear Sweet Rammy, please do not blame yourself for anything. You gave the Lord a wonderful young man who loved God openly and without bounds.

I will pray for your son, but mostly for you and your pain.

God bless. :gopray: :gopray: :gopray:

Thank you, as prayers have become a special way to communicate for me lately…one time, i thought them merely poems of a sort…

I’ve learned much of late, and value ever single one of them!

I’ve been wearing the brown scapular for years.

As a tertiary order Carmelite, I tend to view the scapular like the requirements of prayer and mortification that accompany it – as a private devotion. Just as we are not to (intentionally) let the world know that we are fasting, but instead, keep that as a secret between us and God, the scapular and its obligations are a secret promise to God.

There is no harm if others see your scapular by accident. (I am always a little surprised by the question, “What’s that?,” if mine happens to pop out of my shirt or ride higher, close to my neck, over the course of the day. I’m so used to keeping it hidden!) The other commentators are correct that it is an excellent conversation starter.

However, be cautious about wanting others to see it. That is where one risks falling to the temptation of pride, arrogance or self-contentedness. Instead, try to remain humble and keep your scapular – and your love of Christ and Our Lady – under your shirt and close to your heart.

I like wearing mine against my skin. I can feel it that way, and it reminds my of my promises in the consecration I made. It’s also comforting in a way.

God bless,

Agricola
