I think you may have sinned, but the level of sin certainly wouldn’t be mortal - it’s not like you had loads of time to change and your husband was begging you not to wear it before you left the house or anything.

Hint: one of the requirements for mortal sin is ‘full knowledge’. I doubt that ‘I think I knew’ would cut it in terms of requirement for mortal sin.

Just get a pretty shawl or something to wear over the top - and avoid the pushup bras in future, at least with that dress.

Thank you everyone for your very thoughtful answers. I went to confession this afternoon. I told my priest the whole story and that I received holy communion at daily mass even though I didn’t know if it was mortal sin or not. I also confessed vanity for wanting to look good. He said that it was not mortal sin. When I told him that my dh had said that there was nothing wrong with it when we had gotten home, he said that even though it wasn’t mortal sin it was still a sin! Et Cetera, Thank you for your helpful advice, support and honesty!
Mark a, I have to agree with you that I was a horrible example of a Catholic wife to her non-Christian/Agnostic husband. I really appreciate advice from good holy men since I am on my own when it comes to my faith.
jfhh, I like what you said about not unveiling what we have that is good. And that it is a gift from God. It is like bragging and showing off. Prideful and not humble. Vanity.
