women only please…

I was just wondering, do women who attend the EF Mass receive the Eucharist during that time of the month? Or is this not allowed? I know in some Eastern churches it is not allowed, but in others it is, what about traditional Catholicism?

They wouldn’t but that is not really the point. Nobody knows if you go to confession either, but it is still required. But it is not required that a woman abstain during that time of the month.

Monica, I remember reading a similar thread just a few months ago where a pope was quoted saying that it could be a pious practice but a woman should not be prevented from receiving. I will look for it.

Mary’s purification when she went to the temple was a Jewish tradition, not Catholic. But of course Jews do not recieve the Eucharist.

I’ve never heard or read anything that says you cannot recieve communion no matter what time of the month it is. As long as you’re reconciled with God then thats all that matters, as far as I’ve been taught.

What you are speaking of pretty much is limited to some Eastern Churches, but not found in Traditional Catholicism to my knowledge.

It is believed in the East, that anyone who bleeds after receiving Christ’s Body and Blood, will bleed His blood. That is, if I cut my finger after communion, I would have to properly bury the bandage as it contains Jesus’ Blood mingled with mine.

Yes, that thread was opened by me In the orthodox religion the woman is not allowed to take communion, not even to enter the Church when have the monthly thing. When i converted to Chatolic religion i asked about this on the forum, then i asked also my priest. I didn’t even finish the question when he made me sign to stop and smiled. “Forget it, ofcourse you can take communion.”

I know that, having the monthly thing, one isn’t to partake of communion do to being unclean. Men who have a nocturnal emission the night before are also considered unclean.

However, it is true (at least in conservative Orthodox circles) that you shouldn’t partake if you have a cut or other form of bleeding. And if you start to bleed after communion, the bandage or wipe is considered holy, having on it the precious Blood mingled with your own blood. It should be disposed of properly.

However, I can’t speak for your church as I don’t know what is required there.

Not a woman but as far as I know Eastern Catholics have no such restriction. I’ve read a Coptic Orthodox website once that makes this claim, but thats them.

Lord love a duck!! I am 60 years old and thought I’d heard it all. I NEVER heard such a thing - of course you can go to communion while having a menstrual period as long as you are in the state of grace. Periods are no sin.

Somebody needs to explain what menstruation really is to some of those Eastern Churches…good grief! It’s not active bleeding- it’s the shedding of a lining that formed over the past month. This type of archaic thinking reminds me of some of the early Saints who wrote/taught that the soul didn’t enter a child until the mother felt movement and prior to that she “wasn’t pregnant”. I guess in those Eastern Churches, you should either be permanently pregnant or get a hysterectomy if you don’t want to be “unclean”!

I have been around Easter Catholics most of my life and never, ever heard that teaching. Is this a trick question?

and no one has yet presented any authorative source for Orthodox teaching on the matter, so lets us not jump to conclusions

No, it’s not a trick question… I’ve never met a Catholic who thinks so, but I know Orthodox who do. That’s why I was wondering.

there are Orthodox women who were told this by their mothers or their priests. It depends on the Orthodox church and the priest really.
