Question from a newbie to the Traditional Latin Mass

My family and I have been going to a parish run by the FSSP and have decided to make it our home parish. We have literally fallen in love with the Traditional Latin Mass. Were new at this and was hoping someone could answer a question that has been driving us crazy.😃

During holy Communion when the priest is giving the body of Christ to the alter boys a large group of around twenty people, ranging from small children to adults, walk up the center isle of the nave and kneel with their heads bowed. When the priest is done giving Holy Communion to the alter boys these people then stand and go to the communion rail and receive the body of Christ. After they are done then the rest of the people are allowed to go and receive Holy Communion.

I’m not sure where these people come from because my family sits near the front of the nave and we don’t want to be rude by turning around. Also, were usually really preoccupied by trying to follow along and don’t have time to be looking around anyway.

So…

Who are these people? And what is this all about? Thanks.
 
I go to an FSSP parish, too 🙂 Before the congregation lines up for Communion, the choir walks to the front and receives. After the choir is done, then the rest of us go.

So, maybe they are from the choir?

Although they use the side aisles, that’s precisely what the choir does at my FSSP parish.
 
There are several people in my parish who have celiac disease (gluten intolerance) and receive the Precious Blood only. They go up first.

Long before the FSSP, The Vatican II Council, etc. - 70 years in my experience, it was proper protocol for the choir to receive first. CallistusPM
 
Yes, back in the 40s and 50s and even in the 60s the choir came down from the loft at the back of the church and received first.

I want to say that I am a convert. While in the USAF at age 24 it was the Holyness, the Mystery of the Tridentine mas that first captured me…then came much instruction by an old Monsenior. Thank God!
 
If this is true, and the choir does get Communion first, I say that the Extraordinary Form shall be my Ordinary Form once I’m baptised. 🙂 What a beautiful and meaningful fact: those who are the music-makers receive God first, for they expend the premier and greatest effort in glorifying His Name!

Thank God for F.S.S.P. and this moment of Grace and joy in my soul.
