There is a lot to say about that kind of thinking but it probably won’t be any help.

A very good starting point! There are also people who call themselves Catholics that are complete apostates: They don’t simply “pick and choose”, they outright reject practically everything the church teaches on the theological side of things.

Sinful may not be the appropriate word. Strictly speaking, same sex marriage is not possible. It is not marital and can never be, so it is not marriage. Sodomy, however, is sinful.

Yes, it is indeed scary and I hope these people see the truth

I don’t recognize gay marriage as valid so to me its like shacking up. Like heteros living defacto.

Sorry, but I’m pretty sure you don’t get to determine who is Catholic.

I don’t they do by their actions and beliefs which are against Church teaching.

Heh, sorry but disagreeing with aspects of doctrine also doesn’t deny someone from being Catholic.

Your argument blew everything out of the water. Kind of peculiar that a Non-Catholic knows what qualifies someone as a Catholic.

I’m just not so presumptuous as to be able to tell someone else what their religion is. Especially given you’re not even their priest, bishop or anything else. Seems rather prideful.

It is not presumptuous nor prideful to tell someone that they are not Catholic if they are not. If they aren’t following Church teaching then they aren’t really Catholic and it seems quite reasonable to say so.

Fortunately, the state recognizes gay marriages as valid which allows gay married folks to enjoy a number of rights and benefits and that is probably what is most important to most gay people.

I’ve seen them claim that one on other threads… so only when it suits I guess.

You need a theological understanding in order to know how this works. Baptism makes one Catholic in the sense that they are part of the Church, but through denial of doctrines and such they separated themselves from it.

Ahhh, Schrödinger’s Catholic. They are both Catholic and not Catholic, so long as it backs up Osculetur’s argument at the time.
