I’ve posted a few times on the boards, and have, genuinely found this to be a great place to learn about the faith from the mouths (or keyboards, rather) of the faithful!
Anyway, I’m at the point where I’m shifting from the “what-if?” to the “how?” In other words, I’m mostly beyond the “What if God wants me to become Catholic?” stage and moving into the “How’s this all going to work?” stage.
As far as the process of entrance into the Catholic Church, I’ve been talking with a priest for the last few months, so I know basically how that will go (or, at least, my options).
So here’s my question:
How did you bring your conversion up with your family and friends?
If anyone was in a leadership role (of any level) within a Protestant church, your insight would be appreciated, as I’ve been in youth ministry at a Protestant church for the past few years (non-paid, so I’m not losing income, it’s just a matter of leaving gracefully, you could say).
My father and my father-in-law are both conservative, Protestant ministers, one of them pretty much Fundamentalist and the other in a “mainline” church.
I’ve brought the issue up once with my father-in-law, just to let him know what was going on, and it didn’t go too smoothly. I have not yet brought it up directly with my father.
So, have any advice? Did you have a tactful way of bringing the subject up with your Protestant family/friends? Or did you just use the old “Pass the green beans, please. Oh, and I’m Catholic now!” trick?
