Hello, everyone.
Tomorow, or rather today since it is 2:40 am right now, will be my first time at mass in 6-5 years. I will be attending the Extraordinary Form. I have been to see a more local parish priest, made my general confession etc., so I am pretty much ready to recieve Our Lord. But here is my problem…
I have the 1962 Roman Missal from Baronius Press, which is quite lovely. Now, I understand that the Ordinaries follow the typical of the Solemn Mass. But the parish I will be attending offers a Low Mass. I have read through my Baltimore Catechism Vol. 1 and I know when to kneel, stand, etc. - just follow everyone else
! - but I cannot follow how the B.C. gives the prayers of the mass etc. I want to take my B.P Missal, and I need to learn to follow along properly using the missal in that case, so, I am looking for some help on how I should be using my missal. What variables etc. should I be following along with the priest so I can fully understand the Low Mass?
Of course, I do not want to be spending the whole mass with with my nose in the missal. For my first time, I believe it will be best for my self just to sit and appreciate the beauty of the mass - I understand that the Low Mass is not as beautiful as the Solemn Mass, but from what I have read about so far, and seen in videos, it looks alot more beautiful than the N.O. Mass - and appreciate the presence of Our Lord. But, I still want to learn how to use my missal for me return trips every Sunday! Being kept in the dark wont satsify me more than once or twice
!
Regards,
JP.
P.S. I may not have used the correct terminology etc. in making my post, and for that, I apologise. But, I hope you get the gist of my meaning and request, and I hope you will correct any mistakes I may have made.
P.P.S. I do not want anyone to be offended on my comment on the beauty of each of the Extraordinary and Ordinary Forms. I of course am speaking from my own remembered past experience and I hold up my hands that I have of course not experienced the Extraordinary Form, but I have qualified my statement. I do not hold that anyone may not find the Ordinary Form beautiful - it just doesn’t work for me.
