Independent. The priest there was ordained in 1985 (former SSPX).

Thanks!!! Can’t make to my regular mass tomorrow looking for another option. I never knew they existed until today. Anyone been there before

I’ve been a few times, mostly weekday Mass. The priest there is very strict on Communion. He’ll want to speak with you before he will give you Communion.

Other than that, it will be a Traditional Mass w/Choir, and you will hear a good sermon. 9 AM unless they changed it.

There is an 8 AM Traditional Mass at Guardian Angels parish on Preston hwy as well, and of course, the 12:30 PM TLM at St Martin of Tours. There is a 3 PM SSPX Mass at St Benedict, but I have not been there for a couple of years, so that Mass time may have changed.

Started back before Christmas. I’d call and ask to be sure. The Mass isn’t listed on their site for some reason.

Shouldn’t the conversation end here? Why does this thread seem like an endorsement to go to Mass to a parish that’s not in communion with a Bishop thats in communion with Rome?

Can’t rush to judgment here. Many independent priests do report to a legitimate bishop (probably outside their own diocese) and not under suspension. They have certain civil contracts to honor. Masses are probably okay; confessions are a different matter as they have to be approved by the local bishop.

While I can’t claim to have seen every possible scenario out there, I have yet to see a parish website that calls themselves independent and be in communion with Rome. Being the “One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church,” we can’t really be independent and be part of it. Examples of independent churches are:

mysite.verizon.net/M-boyle/CCChurch-FAQ.html
romancatholicwomenpriests.org/

Just ctrl-F “independent” on their pages.

Also, sedevacantists use the term as well. Wikipedia I think summarizes the term well:
Independent Catholic churches are Catholic congregations that are not in communion with the Roman Catholic Church
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Independent_Catholic_Churches

Here is a quite informative page about the OSJ and associates like Fr. Gavin Bitzer is

jloughnan.tripod.com/wathenos4.htm

For me the biographical data means that there is no life outside of the root (John 15-17).

The author above (formerly affilated with the SSPX) may be biassed, but still notable that you can find easily the biography of the diocesan priests, and the independents are almost always secretive. The children of light have nothing to hide.

So, I should have lied ? How is asking about a parish/chapel encouraging attendance ?

The OP has since expressed interest in a diocesan parish TLM, which would never have been mentioned if promotion of an independent chapel were the goal of the thread. Or if I were encouraging attendance to the chapel, I’d have never mentioned the two diocesan parishes.

There is no ill intent here, no matter how much you want there to be.

So making statements like “I’ve been there a few times” is not an endorsement?

I don’t see how. I never received Communion there because I was not willing to meet the criteria.

Cardinal Hoyos has been to Econe more than once I believe. That an endorsement ?

A priest need faculties to celebrate Mass from the local ordinary.

A priest under another bishop can not move into a different diocese and start offering public Masses.

There is no such thing as an “independent” priest in the Catholic Church.

Maybe that term just works for restaurants and not for parishes

And for what purpose? A cardinal can have an official purpose of being there, can’t say the same of a layperson.

You know how it is. An opportunity has presented itself, so another thread is hijacked with links to organizations that are so far removed from the topic (a small chapel), that chaos ensues. With zero knowledge of the chapel, we have all these possible scenarios presented, only one of which could possibly be correct with a million to one guess.

The chance for calumny is far greater. And, a priest has been named in violation of forum rules already. H.H. is right, we must have one group to hate

@ Constantine, am I excommunicated and placed on the goats list for daring to assist a Mass prayed by a priest ordained by Archbishop LeFebvre ? I didn’t inhale the incense, I really didn’t 🙂

I think PV has been around long enough to know that. 😉
