When the Pope was in France during the Avignon Papacy, was he still officially the bishop of Rome?
Do you know which session addressed this?Yes, he was still bishop of Rome. Absentee bishops was one of the abuses that the Council of Trent addressed.
Session seven dealt with reform of the Practices of Bishops and of Clergy in generalDo you know which session addressed this?
I think residency was Session VI, chap. 1.Session seven dealt with reform of the Practices of Bishops and of Clergy in general
Session VII’s reforms continued with 15 chapters (specific reforms) related to clergy. But, AFAIK, residency was chap 1 in Session VI. It’s the longest reform in the two Sessions.Session seven dealt with a Bishop being Bishop in more than one Cathedral. Maybe there was crossover between the sessions.
