Question on blessing of St. Benedict Medal

okay so i talk toa Priest about blessing my St. Benedict Medal and he blessed it doing the sign of the cross over it, but i seen on the internet theres supposively a diff way of blessing it my question is, is my Medal blessed or should i get it re blessed? God bless

This Benedictine site explains all about the Jubilee Medal of St. Benedict and the symbolism on it, and there is a blessing that can be used towards the end of the explanation.

I had my St Benedict’s medal blessed by an FSSP priest and he used the old blessing (I haven’t been able to find it). It was longer than the one in the link above and it was in Latin.

Anyone have a link to that?

I am sure that the one the FSSP does in Latin, and the one In the Benedictine site are proper blessings.

Perhaps you can ask your priest to do the longer one - or if you think he may not understand why he should, you can ask another priest?

Your Medal is blessed yes. But if you really want the traditional blessing for it just go to a priest willing to do it. assume the priest does not know the blessing, then print out the version you see on the internet and take it to him in order to help him.

I am pretty sure I had mine blessed by the local Benedictine Monastic priest. You could always take it there.

yeah your grand. Just wait until the opportunity knocks and your able to go to a benedictine monastery or something and get the traditional blessing. Pray to St.benedict and ask him to help you acheive this.

It would be very nice, but is not necessary for a Benedictine to bless the medal.

If you look at my message, #2, in the site I shared (Benedictine site), scroll down until you see this “Approved Blessing of the medal of St. Benedict.”

It states that it does not have to be a Benedictine that gives the blessing.

Other alternative could be to just pray to St.Benedict to bless the Medal or Ask Jesus to bless it through St.benedicts intercession and off ya go, problem solved.

of course. That is what they are there for and if we acknowledge that whilst asking the Lord for his blessing then I don’t see why asking him directly for a blessing would be a problem.

This is what I would do. When I researched the medal and the blessing it seemed to me that it should be done in a particular way. ie. using the above mentioned blessing. I don’t know if the medal is blessed or not now, maybe you could email a benedictine and ask.

The medal has exorcism properties attached to it’s use when blessed using the approved formula. It is now a blessed sacramental, but you probably would want to have it done using the approved formula which grants the exorcism powers to it.

I see that Dorothy has a link to the approved blessing, just print it out (you can just copy & paste the prayer into a word editor, then print) and take it to a priest and ask for the medal to be blessed using that formula. Then you’ll be good to go.

If it’s the same priest a) He might not remember blessing it in the first place and b) You could explain that you would like the Benedictine formula used so as to have the exorcism properties attached to that formula. Or you could simply take the Benedictine blessing and medal to a different priest to bless.
