I am not sure what Forum to put this under, so please forgive me if it is the wrong one!

I got an item blessed by a priest. If he misunderstood my intention of why I wanted it blessed and blessed it for another intention other than what I had… Does the priest’s intention for the blessing count or does mine? Can I get the item re-blessed according to my intention??

The blessing is a dedication of a person or thing to God’s service.

I think his blessing was all the blessing it needed. It does not have to have words for your intention or any intention. Sometimes it is a very basic blessing that the priest says, without mention of the item, its intention or the Saint you may be requesting help from for example.

It is all good. 👍

It depends on what you mean by “my intention.” If you intended to have a Benedict Medal blessed and the Priest didn’t use the blessing for Benedict Medals, then you’d just take it to a Priest and ask for that blessing. If your intention was to have something blessed for a private intention, like help with a specific moral challenge, then the ritual the priest uses doesn’t necessarily need to conform to your intention. Though often there are specific sacramentals that help us with specific things…so in those cases you want the specific blessing for those sacraments and not a general blessing.

I hope that helps!
