My breviary states that the readings starting Monday after the Octave of the Pentecost are from Kings. However, they are actually from Samuel. Why is that? (The Latin column reads “De libro primo Regum” and the English column reads “From the first book of Kings”)

Because in the Vulgate and Douay Rheims there are four books of Kings. Usually later they would say First Book of Kings of Samuel or the sort. So 1 Samuel is 1 Kings and 2 Kings is 4 Kings.

Put simply there was no 1 and 2 Samuel and 1 and 2 Kings, but 1-4 Kings. I prefer it the traditional way honestly.
