Question on Divorce

hi…interested in the Catholic view of divorce…in a way that I can explain to another…I read the Catechism and not sure what it means…can you help?
 
The Church recognizes a valid marriage, be it within our “outside” the Catholic Church, between a man and a woman as a sacred bond. A divorce may account for the legal and social aspect of the marriage, but those two individuals will always be married in the eyes of the Church and the eyes of God.

Does that help clarify it a bit?
