Question on evolution

I was wondering whether or not is is blasphemous or wrong wrong in any way to think that God created the universe, but not in a literal 7 days. Furthermore, Is it blasphemous or wrong in anyway to believe that God created us through evolution???
-I would just like to say that I believe that God created the universe and humans, and that He could have done it in any way.

I would think it is not blasphemous to think in terms of non-literal days, but conversely I would not reject a literal 7 days either. God could do it in any way He wanted, and he did communicate to us through the Scriptures that He did it in 7 days. I would keep an open mind.

To my knowledge the Church doesn’t require us to reject any specific scientific theory about the origins of the universe or of biological life, so Catholics can accept a non-Creationist reading of the bible. Creationism is in fact a Protestant fundamentalist invention, as Protestant Fundamentalists set up certain doctrines regarding the Bible, including infallibility in terms of historical accuracy and on matters of science. Catholics however are not required to believe that the bible is infallible when it comes to scientific theories of origins, though we are cautioned about scientific naturalism which can lead to atheism (such as the ideas or arguments of people like Richard Dawkins or Jacques Monod, who use science to try and prove God doesn’t exist).

Your thinking sounds a lot like Catholic teaching to me. A couple of things 1) The earth did not always rotate at a revolution per 24 hours! Today the earth is slowing however in the beginning a revolution may have taken millions of years! Yes the original 7 revolution may have taken millions of years. Today some geological evidence indicated once the revolution dropped down to around 12-18 hours. This is believed to be when we were receiving the moon. Second the Church accepts evolution as a part of God’s works.

We are not required to believe or disbelieve the earth was created in 6 literal days and we are not required to believe or disbelieve evolution.
We ARE required to believe that God created the universe out of nothing.
