Question on Mass from 12/16

I am hoping someone can answer a question regarding yesterdays, Dec. 16, Mass. I am a fairly new revert and have never encountered this so I hope it is not a silly question.

During the entrance antiphon, the priest stood at the back of the chapel and reciteds a Marian prayer. I do not know which one as I had nevr heard it before. Anyway, there were many points where the people gave a responsorial verse and at one point they all genuflected towards the left. The mass had a very Marian feel as we said the Hail Mary several times also. It was very beautiful but I was very lost. Can anyone shed some light on this or help me know when to expect this sort of Mass in the future?

At the end of Mass the priest placed the Eucharist for adoration and everyone stood and sang a hymn of priase, it was very touching for me and I was moved by the whole experience.

Interesting. The only thing that I can think of is that your parish has decided to do a Christmas Novena. These typically go for the 9 days before Christmas from the 16th to the 24th. Other than that, I’m not sure… Anyone else have any ideas?

What times was the Mass at? Noon? It sounds like the part at the beginning could have been the Angelus, the traditional 6, noon, and 6 prayer:

Priest: The angel of the Lord declared unto Mary
ALL: And she conceived by the Holy Spirit.
Hail Mary…

Priest: Behold the handmaid of the Lord
ALL: Be it done unto me according to Thy word.
Hail Mary…

Priest: And the Word was made Flesh
ALL: genuflect] And dwelt among us.
Hail Mary . . .

Priest: Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God
ALL: That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray:

Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts; that we, to whom the incarnation of Christ, Thy Son, was made known by the message of an angel, may by His Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of His Resurrection, through the same Christ Our Lord.

Amen.

It was at 8:30 AM. This could very well be the prayer. I wish I knew what it was but being a new revert I wasn’t expecting it so I really can’t say for certain. It was interesting how the priest led the prayer from the rear of the chapel before entering for the mass.

Any prayer or such that is not an official part of the mass must be clearly separated from the mass. Leading the prayer from the rear seems to clearly separate the two.

It was a really wonderful experience. I felt a deep sense of community and joy at this particular mass.
