Greetings! I was learning about the life of St. Moses the Black (also called the Ethiopian, the Robber, the Strong), a desert father from the IV century. I would like to know if he is venerated in the Catholic Church. The reason I ask is because I learn from him from a Coptic Orthodox movie (cover), however he died in AD 405, way before the separation from Rome. Could anyone clarify this for me, please?
If yes, does anyone know if his memory was ever introduced in the Roman Calendar (now or in previous versions)? Some websites mention August 28, but I could not find it in the current Calendar and in the Extraordinary Form calendar. Perhaps in the calendar of the Coptic Catholic rite (if different)?
I am always very surprised and pleased that many great and holy men venerated by our separated Eastern brothers are also venerated in the Catholic Church. The study of their life and teachings provides great insight and opens points of dialogue and mutual understanding, which is the only hope for the healing of the wounds that afflict our Savior’s mystical body.
