Those would be pretty inappropriate for a Mass.

Is it possible that it was some other kind of gathering? Perhaps a prayer service of some sort, but not a Mass?

There are few particular stipulations about music for Mass, but both of those songs would fall under the category of definitely no!

With Gorgias, I wonder if this was some other sort of devotional service, rather than a Mass? Popular songs that don’t violate dogma are allowed at, for example, “celebrations of the Word.”

“… can’t be possible …”?

Well anything is possible, but it doesn’t mean it should happen. Unfortunately should, could and did are three different things. For example chant “should” hold pride of place, but it rarely “could” be done properly, and even rarer “does” it receive proper respect.

Given that I can beleive that someone without a proper understanding of liturgy would think those songs are perfectly acceptable. With the broadening of musical styles used at mass it is easy to see how someone could not understand the difference between sacred and profane music. By extention they might simply default to “I like the melody and lyrics seem to fit, so …”

No, sadly it was a Mass. My daughter is considering becoming Catholic and all she’s experienced are things like this:pensive: She went to this Mass because the last Catholic butch they went to the priest had her in tears because she has more traditional values and he ridiculed her and us her parents for having these values and told her she doesn’t belong in the Catholic Church… I am a convert and am so sad she is going through this as it was never my experience…😩 Any advise??? I am praying for all, most especially those priests as they will be held accountable.

If this was at Mass (and not just a youth group function), it’s highly inappropriate and worth reporting to the Bishop for your Diocese.

You should taker her to a Traditional Latin Mass! You’ll find nothing bad like that there. Nor any priests who would chastise you for having correct, traditional values. 🙂

What??? That’s terrible!

Is that parish known to be liberal? Is there another parish in your city?

If it’s not too personal, what traditional values were ridiculed?

I won’t specifically name the issues because I fear people will get sidetracked and that’s not my intention. Let’s just say that these " traditional views "would be welcome at EWTN of which this priest does not share. ( he specifically put EWTN down as well as naming one person in derogatory terms that works there) I’m at a loss as to what to tell her to do next. I let her know to go to the Bishop, but doesn’t want to because it’s a small town and she says it will only make things worse.
