If Catholicism is the correct religion why isn’t it more convincing? Why wouldn’t God make his religion somehow more appealing than any others.

I think ultimately I’m just going to bite the bullet and believe because I’m sick of living in utter nihilism. Thank you all for your guidance.

Enough to just throw too much confession into the mix I’m going to try again to step back and approach it from a more relaxed perspective and as much as I hate the idea of faith I’m just going to give it time.

‘convincing’ in this context is relative/subjective. Great thinkers, like Descartes and Pascal, found it convincing. Some others, not really. In the end, it is free will at play. If I were you, I’d pray for guidance.

As always I do appreciate it! Ultimately I need to surrender my will.

At the end of the day you can always take a very practical approach to it. I firmly believe that everyone needs a clearly-articulated world view in order to feel rooted and confident.

Does Catholicism offer a world view that allows you to feel rooted and confident? If so, I think you have found some truth here, and are sort of looking for things to disagree with (in other words, protesting too much).

By the way, I’m guilty of this myself. I’m down to the really niggly things that bug me about Catholicism, and those are the things that are keeping me from converting.

I’m just done believing my consciousness ends in death I want to feel the love of someone and care of them! At least it’s better than the alternative.

As always I appreciate it and I’m sorry for being difficult!

Consciousness is not your whole being. God created you to be loved. I believe that you are convinced of this but do not understand this thing. No one does.
Your body and soul will live forever. God created none of us for destruction. What all this pool of fire and new heaven and new earth vision means is not known because it us currently unknowable. Jesus redeemed mankind by dieing on the cross. He died for you, He died for me, He died for each one of us. He is Risen! Blessed Easter to you as it sounds like Jesus has raised you from spiritual death this Easter. Thank Him, thank Him for those who pray for you.
If you think believing in this personal God is pretty wacky stuff what will you do when you start to understand how powerful prayer is?
He hears you, you understand this means He knows your heart because He made you and sustains you. The Holy Spirit can dwell within you. No wonder these Christian writers tell of Narnia and places with Hobbits to explain who this Christ is in ways that come from the heart. These realities of supernatural truth seem too fantastic. Truth is these heavenly things are more real than what we understand by our senses. Ask Aquinas, the Angelic Doctor. He has your cure for these odd feelings. Our hearts are restless until they rest in God.

I believe the church is so against the norm of what is accepted by secular society that it shows it is the truth. Because it is against the grain and still has the largest following on the planet (even if you combine ALL Protestant denominations) it shows that it is the truth. Jesus said to Peter that the gates of hell would not prevail against the church and even though all of society says otherwise, the church still has over a billion followers. These reasons show me that I am in THE Church Christ Himself founded

Maranatha! Come, Lord Jesus!

Much more hope and love in this than waiting for that proverbial big asteroid zooming toward Earth.
