Deacon Ed:
If I were the priest and had proved to myself that mentioning was ineffectual, I’d up the ante by demonstration. When genuflection time came, I’d announce though my microphone as I genuflected, “Please, genuflect with me to demonstrate your reverence for the mystery of the Incarnation.” I would do this at every Mass until 100% compliance was achieved. If I did not achieve 100% compliance, I’d be prepared to continue the practice until the day I died.

Ergo, you’ve proved that mentioning does not work. That’s all. But that should not be the be-all and end-all of this impious and disobedient situation.Ah, it’s been mentioned, and not just once. My pastor has mentioned it, I have mentioned it, and we put it in the bulletin.

That is not true. I insist on standards of behavior that I cannot enforce all the time. Jesus Himself insisted that we be perfect as His heavenly Father is perfect. Yet the bruised reed He does not break and the smoldering wick He does not quench. In other words, God insists on standards that He Himself does not enforce. We are called to do likewise. – Sincerely, Albert Cipriani the Traditional CatholicAs for “insisting” – one can only insist when there is a way to enforce. At best we can request, or perhaps suggest, that the people follow the teaching of the Church.”
