Checking iBreviary, I noticed that there was a setting there for “Vetus Ordo”. When I attempted to find out more about it, I didn’t really find out more about it (suffice it to say I was led to sites I’d rather not go into).

Can anyone give me links to reputable Catholic sites on this form of the mass? Thanks so much and God bless!

The term “Vetus Ordo” is just another name for the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite. The Vetus Ordo section in iBreviary has the parts of the divine office from the older breviary (of 1962). The hours of the divine office for the Vetus Ordo include the hour of Prime (which was not included in the revision of the breviary for the Ordinary Form) and are longer than the same hour in the Ordinary Form. An unfortunate thing I have found is that sometimes I will go to one of the hours in the Vetus Ordo section and I will get a message saying that the text of the office for that hour of the day is unavailable, but it never hurts to check every time. If you want more information on the Vetus Ordo, check out Sancta Missa.

By the way, I shared the link as well to my friends who are working so hard to revive the Latin Mass Society at our university 🙂 Checked the site out as well; it’s really comprehensive 😃 Thanks so much!

Of course the current Liturgy of the Hours, as well as the Ordinary Form Mass, can be in Latin as well.

I have always done at least Lauds and Vespers in Latin, whether praying the current Liturgy of the Hours, or the Monastic variant used at our abbey. And at the same abbey, a large part of the Ordinary Form Mass (Propers and Ordinary) are in Latin. Other abbeys in our congregation do the entire Ordinary Form Mass in Latin.

I’m sorry, off topic quick question - where can one find the Latin version of the currently Liturgy of the Hours?

Online: iBreviary I think has a Latin option. Also, almudi.org/Portals/0/docs/Breviario/fuentes/breviario.html

It’s a bit of a funky layout but it’s all there.

In books, the official breviary is Liturgia Horarum. It used to be available through Paxbooks but they’re no longer online for some reason. I’ve seen them on Amazon. Not cheap, alas.

Also, for the daytime hours noted for Gregorian chant, Les Heures Grégoriennes. It’s Latin on one side, French on the other but everything is there for Lauds, mid-day, Vespers and Compline as well as the complementary psalms (for the other minor hours). Also not cheap but beautifully done. traditions-monastiques.com/en/french-liturgy-books-gregorian-chant-handbook/1182-l1128f.html

Lastly, Liber Hymnarius, the hymnal noted for chant, is available through the bookstore at Solesmes and possibly other sources, as well as the Antiphonale Romanum II, the first volume of the official Latin antiphonary of the LOTH. It includes Vespers for all Sundays of the year in addition to feasts and solemnities, all noted for Gregorian chant. Latin only, but beautifully done and nicely bound.

If you seriously wanted to look at the Vetus Ordo (Latin for “Old Order” meaning the older rite of the Divine Office prior to the V2 reforms), then I’d not waste time with trad websites or even iBreviary. I’d just get the app BrevMeum. It’s $0.99 and it works. If you find you like it, there are a few options out there for purchasing books. I would definitely not buy EF breviary books unless you know what you’re getting into. They’re beautiful and the prayers are inspiring, but they’re a serious expense and time commitment, and you don’t want them to end up collecting dust.
