Today we had Passion of Christ readings. the translation says taht Jesus is sitting at the right hand of the Power instead of saying the right hand of God or Father. the other was instead of thieves, it read revolutionaries.

did you have the same translation in your Parish?

The translation used at Mass depends on what country you’re in. In the US, the reading can be found here: usccb.org/nab/041711.shtml It does use the word “power.” For what it’s worth, the NRSV also uses “power.”

Where the NAB translation uses “revolutionaries,” the NRSV uses “bandits.”

Remember that as translations carry copyrights, they have to distinguish themselves from other translations. They also should be translations of the original, not paraphrasing of the other translations, which I’m afraid many of them are. So much so, they are further and further removed from the original.

Cavete omnes translationes.
