Question on Venial Sins in Confession

Seeking other opinions-

Is one ok to go to confession for Venial sins? I know the Church encourages Catholics to confess Venial sins, but what if no Mortal Sins were committed? Should one seek solace in the Eucharist if no mortal sins are committed?

Confession is required once a year. If you go a whole year without committing any mortal sins (which is wonderful), you are still required to go to confession.

I make it a habit to go to confession around once a month. I am incredibly thankful for those occasions I go and have nothing grave to confess, but I still find a great deal of grace in the Sacrament.

Can. 988 §1. A member of the Christian faithful is obliged to confess in kind and number all grave sins committed after baptism and not yet remitted directly through the keys of the Church nor acknowledged in individual confession, of which the person has knowledge after diligent examination of conscience.

§2. It is recommended to the Christian faithful that they also confess venial sins

I often tell my classes that one need only go to the dentist when one has a rotten tooth to be dug out. However, if one goes to the dentist frequently one will not have a rotten tooth. Similarly, one is obliged to confess only grave/mortal sins. However, frequent confession of venial sins helps keep one from grave/mortal sins.

You may go to confession WHENEVER you wish to. When you go without any mortal sins on your soul, it is a Confession of Devotion, and you replenishing and strengthening Sanctifying Grace. If you feel inspired to confess, by all means do so.

Sure, it’s fine to go to confession for venial sins. I would, out of charity for others who may really need to go to confession because of mortal sins, avoid going at particularly busy times (e.g., right before Holy Week, right before Christmas,) just to give them the chance to get their confession in. Or seek out a parish where there are frequent confession times given.
