I’m from a Baptist background. My mother doesn’t want me to be Confirmed till I’m 18, so I cannot yet receive the Eucharist.

However, I love the Mass and participate in the Prayers and Songs and receive a blessing during Communion. For me, just being that close to Christ is good enough for now.

Well… I still go with her to First Baptist on Sundays (and Mass Saturday and Sunday evening without fail) because she asks it of me, and a retreat is coming up at said church. I went last year, prior to my conversion, and it was an amazing experience. My friends all want me to go and I don’t know. I want to, I admit, and it gives me a chance to be a witness to the Catholic faith while there (I prayed the rosary with a friend during a Baptist camp at night and recounted the Fatima story to another friend, teaching him the Fatima Prayer).

Here’s my problem: The bus isn’t supposed to get back till 4:00 Sunday, and it’s always late. The last chance I’d have to make Mass is at that exact time, so it’s no go.

Since I can’t receive the Eucharist as it is, would it be wrong to go? I feel guilty about missing Mass–and besides that, I love it!

What’s MORE, my friend just asked me to go to something ELSE, a Bible study retreat, and I don’t know when it’s supposed to end. (It’s all weekend, returning sometime Sunday.)

He needs an answer by tomorrow. I also need to give my mom an answer about the other event.

HELP, please!

Thanks!
There’s nothing in scripture to suggest that it would be morally wrong.

Is attending Mass alone and not actually eating and drinking good enough? Would not the OP actualy have an baptism of desire and therefore can partake of the elements?

1 Corinthians 10:14-22 (King James Version)

14Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.

15I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.

16The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?

17For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.

18Behold Israel after the flesh: are not they which eat of the sacrifices partakers of the altar?

19What say I then? that the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing?

20But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.

21Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.

22Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?

And you don’t feel that you can be close to Jesus by praying and studying His word?
24
It is this disciple who testifies to these things and has written them, and we know that his testimony is true.
25
There are also many other things that Jesus did, but if these were to be described individually, I do not think the whole world would contain the books that would be written.

John 21:24-25 NAB

27Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.

1 Corinthians 11:27 (New International Version)
And how, exactly, did you manage to wrest “it is morally wrong to go on a Bible study retreat” out of this verse?

I misread the OP as wanting to go to Communion even though he had not yet officially entered the CC. :o

Deacon Ed B;3201884:
My point is very simple. You say disobedient to God or God firrst. Honor thy father and mother. Yes, lets by all means disobey and we have given the baptist mother a perfect example of everything propaganda has taught of the church. This is really plain, Obediance is better than sacrafice-honor thy father and mother.

Please please please friend, go to a priest and discuss these things with him. I think you will find the catholic church is still there when you are 18 (and I sure hope you werent baptized without parental consent) I cant see that happening.

For all of our good intentions here, let us remember that what we advise this young man to do, is an example to his mother, family, and friends. And if you are legitametly arguing a case for a breaking of a commandment INTENTIONALLY- please let me know because honestly- the celibacy thing is a pain lol (joke) (kinda:o )
Honoring one’s mother and father does not include blind obedience. You should talk to your priest about this issue if you think otherwise.

And what in the world does celibacy have to do with this issue? Please don’t answer me and take the thread off topic, but once again, have a good, long talk with your priest. Or, if he doesn’t understand it (not all do) read what the catechism has to say about it.

I must enter an objection at this point. From the post of DELLA, I am quoted as entering things which I did not. I don’t know how this happened, but what is attributed to me, was not posted by me.

In my post of 4:08 PM yesterday, the first paragraph was a quote from someone else, the second paragraph is mine.
