Question re communion

Medical issues aside, one should not eat anything approx. an hour prior to receiving communion. My question is…how long should one wait to eat after receiving communion? I’ve always been taught an hour before so an hour after too…can anyone help answer my question?
 
I was taught that the Eucharistic Presence of Christ remains as long as the accidents (physical properties) of bread and wine do. Now a small piece of white bread and a sip of wine don’t take long at all to break down. In a normal human stomach that’s only about 15 minutes.

So, that being the case, it’s fine to eat fifteen minutes or more after communion - there’s no risk after that time of mixing food with the Eucharist. Or so I’ve been taught.

That is what I was taught, too, but I don’t know if it’s in any official documents.

I don’t think there’s any mention of any time AFTER communion in any official document.
 
The assumption here seems to be that it is done so that Jesus doesn’t get mixed in with digesting food. If so, that is a fallacy because some foods stay in the stomach for more than an hour. I am thinking that the fast is meant to help us get spiritually set for what is to come. What do I know though? Maybe we are following a fallacy.

That’s what I thought, too. No one has ever said anything to me about how long to wait afterwards.

We have a noon Mass at our parish. How do the workers get anything to eat for lunch, if they have to fast after receiving Holy Communion, as well as before? :confused:
 
There is no restriction on eating after Communion.

However, please wait till mass is over. 😃

In fact, many parishes recommend a serving of coffee & donuts or pancake breakfast immediately following the service. 😛

We have coffee & donuts at our Bible study after Mass. But it takes about 15 minutes until the coffee is set up and brewed.

What you were taught sounds like some kind of old pious custom of mortification – something extra for God, rather than the rule. What I wonder is if that custom’s associated with a particular ethnic background, a saint, an order, or what have you.

please wait until you get outside church, I picked up an empty cheetohs bag and soda can while cleaning up after the last Mass Sunday.
