My wife and I were recently introduced to the Devotion of the Precious Blood of Jesus. Part of the Chaplet of the Precious Blood, there is a prayer that just doesn’t make sense to us.

*L: O most Precious Blood of Jesus Christ.
R: Heal the wounds in the most Sacred Heart of Jesus.
*

Why would the Sacred Heart of Jesus need healing? Is this prayer actually to the Precious Blood of Jesus Christ, and are we asking it to heal Jesus?

If someone could help me understand this better, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

If you can explain a couple of other lines as well…that would be great:

L: O Most Precious Blood of Jesus Christ
R: Teach us how to console Jesus

Why do I need to console Jesus?

I would take the words in a poetic rather than strictly literal sense and understand as something like this: when we sin, we sin against God’s love or poetically, it is as if we wound the Sacred Heart. As they say, our sins sharpened the tip of the spear thrust into the side of Christ on the cross. Thus, I would view this prayer as asking for the forgiveness and blotting out of our sins and its effects.

The topic reminds me of part of the Fatima Apparitions. Just prior to Our Lady’s Apparitions at Fatima… the 3 children were visited by the Angel of Peace… three times.

At the third Apparition of the Angel of Peace… they reported that he gave them Holy Communion. One Host… to Lucia… and the Precious Blood… to Francisco and Jacinta. He expressed to them, these words…

“Take and drink the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ, which has endured such outrage from ungrateful men. Make reparation for their offenses and so console your God.”

My humble opinion is that God is pleased when we try to console His Heart… for the ungrateful numbers of people in the world.

Hope this helps, in some way. God bless.
