Question: Regarding genuflecting

I don’t think we have a tabernacle at our church. Shall I genuflect?

If there is no Tabernacle in the Sanctuary, bow to the altar.

But there should be a Tabernacle in the church…

I would ask, where is Jesus?

Sometimes the Tabernacle is placed in an out of the way area and it takes a bit of looking (unfortunately). There should be a Tabernacle, if you don’t see it, just ask.

Is it a Catholic church?

If so, look for the red candle, it is there somewhere . . . as is the tabernacle.

It may not be red. There is no rule on the color.

If there is no tabernacle visible in the main church, bow to the altar instead.

I’d ask - it must be around somewhere. It may well be in the main body of the Church but in a location that’s not blindingly obvious. On the other hand, there may be a side chapel where the Eucharist is reserved instead in order to facilitate Adoration or something.

If the Tabernacle is neither in nor visible from the main body of the Church then you simply bow to the Altar.
