I’ve never read the catechism or other catholic books for that matter. (only quotes and verses)

For those of you who read the Bible and catholic books, have you ever read material from the two sources that conflicts? If so which did you believe to be true? How did you interpret the material?

Please, if this has happen feel free to discuss how you handle the situation. I am curious to know.

No. During my conversion I did however read things from the Bible and from the Catechism which conflicted with my personal beliefs of the time. I humbly admitted that I was wrong and sought forgiveness.

God bless

Catechisms are not infallible. Never have been and never will be. If the catechism was infallible the church would have include the didache as scripture.

If the church included the didache as scripture it would be in every single christian bible printed today.

I think the didache should have been in the canon but I do not have the authority to make such a claim.

Here is how I approach it. The scriptures defined by the church be it protestant or catholic must support the church teachings.

Only Traditional Catholicism has complete support from its scripture.

The problem I suspect you are coming to is the doctrine of Scripture alone. This is Idolatry. The truth is taught. That wich is written supports the truth but doesn’t teach the truth. the fact of the matter is that the bible is a dead book and has no power to teach. The word of God is a living man known in our tongue by the name of Jesus Christ. I shall call him Yeshua. Yeshua taught and did not wright a single word. Those he taught wrote to those that have been taught. That is the new testament. Deviate from this oral teaching and you will not arive at the truth. Accept oral teaching and study each religion on its own terms and you will find that the Traditional Orthodox Catholic beliefs are truth.

The primary key you can use to crush heresey is Marian Doctrine.

Start with the teachings of the church. She is our mother. Look to scripture. Scripture says she is our mother. Honor mother and father. Only Catholics and Orthodox keep this commandment. Awesome. we can firmly place our foot on the head of the serpant with this one truth.

I fear you are looking for argument instead of seaking truth?

During my conversion I read a lot of things that confliced with Church teaching. But when I really studied it closley & took the time to look at the very small detailes, I saw that the Church is the only one of those that call themselves Christian, that follows the Bible. The Bible, perticularly the new testament, is what the Catholic Church is all about. At 1st that may not be obvious.

Wanna know something funny? It was the passage in the New Testament about confession that 1st terned me on to the Church. Right after that I relized that Holy Communion was in there too. I had read the Bible a hundred times & never saw confession or Communion before. I was told that was just made up by Catholics. Then my eyes were opened & I could not understand why I had not seen it before.

Hi. I can assure you that there is no conflict whatsoever. I am cradle Catholic and may unable to really appreciate Protestants’ objection on Catholic doctrines but there are perceived contradictions as seen by them, notably Real Presence, intercession of the saints, infallibility, Purgatory and Sacraments. There are Catholic disciplines and practices that Protestants thought contradicting the Bible like celibate priests and addressing them Father.

However all these do not contradict the Bible. Of course our differences lie in the interpretation and understanding of the Bible. From what I see here there seems to be an impasse on the differences that we are unable to reconcile.

God bless.

I have found no conflict between Catholic teaching and Scripture. I find the two to be quite harmonious.

What I did find however was a huge gap between protestant theology and the Bible. This came from 20 years in the protestant church. I found the teachings on baptism, salvation, authority and many others to be against what is taught in the Bible. The one that really got me thinking was sola scriptura, a completely indefensible protestant belief.

I have read the Catechism and used it in several Bible studies. I have not found any conflicts or contradictions. In fact, the Cathecism is heavily referenced and footnoted with biblical citations (as well as early Church Fathers).

If you found what appeared to be a conflict, you would look at the Scripture passage in context as well as in light of the Tradition of the Church and then look at the Catechism in light of the teaching of Scripture. That should give you a clear interpretation.
