do you feel uncomfortable confessing sexual sins to your priest? If if it is not face to face?

I like face-to-face confession, and I don’t feel uncomfortable at all confessing sexual sins to my priest. I know that he has heard just about everything so nothing I’m going to confess will shock him.

You always have the option of going behind the screen, or going to a different parish where the priest doesn’t know you if you are uncomfortable. Or you could be discreet in how you phrase things. He will still understand what you mean.

No more uncomfortable than confessing other sins. Fortunately at this point in life, sexual sins are - I think- few and far between. I prefer face to face, but that’s just a personal preference.

I have felt a tad uncomfortable in the past, when I was younger. it doesn’t bother me as it used to.

Hopefully, if you go to confession frequently, you get to a point where you don’t have any of these kinds of sins to confess.

Embarrassment over having to confess certain sins is actually a deterrent, and can therefore be a grace.

I agree absolutely. I used to tell my kids not to do anything they would not want to tell Father in Confession.

Maybe that’s why they stoped going altogether.

No, I don’t feel embarrassed, whether it is face to face or behind the screen. I also use the most simple and direct language, avoiding euphemisms. I just think those are awkard. Being simple and direct makes it non-embarassing, I guess because it is more generic and less personal then.

I don’t feel embarassment because of the priest, but shame before Christ because of the sin. Sometimes I think people tend to focus too much on the priest and forget that it’s really Christ that we are confessing to, that should put us in a different and actually more remorseful frame of mind, forget about the priest!

Of course, I’m a new Catholic, and I’m used to always having had a mindset that my confessions are to Christ anyway, so I just haven’t really changed the way I view it, I just say it out loud now instead of privately in prayer. But verbal confession makes the gravity of my sin somehow more pronounced, which is why it’s the wisest way, Christ knew what he was doing!

Maybe I’m off my rocker but I’m not real comfortable telling someone by the name of “Gradstud” with only 40 posts if I am comfortable talking to my priest about sexual things. 🤷 Sorry if I sound leary but it just struck me as odd.

I am like what appears to be most of the people, and am a HUGH fan of Face to Face Confession. I feel more comfortable with my Priest, and he tries to ease the way through difficult areas. As for sexual things, it has never really come up. The one time it did, he was very understanding and helpful. Now that says a lot and nothing. I think it is important to confess, and if you are not comfortable face to face, go behind the screen or as someone else said simply go to see another priest. It is not so much WHO you see, but that you get absolution for your sins.😊

‘gradstud’ stands for graduate student, I believe. No need to read scandal where none was probably intended.

Thanks for clarifying…that does stand for graduate student…
Most of these things I need to confess I did so long ago & I am mortified to even bring them up. I just find them very embarrasing to even talk about. I guess it does help to remember you are talking to Christ, not the priest. Also, I just have a hard time talking to men in general and its hard to view the priest any differently. Thanks for the advice.

Grad implied a young man because I do realize it does stands for graduate. That’s why it stuck me as odd. I thought it an odd question aimed at mature women. 🤷

I guess you must think I’m off my rocker 🙂 sorry :o

I’m a grad student and am definitely also a woman.

Topic: I usually attend a different parish and go in the box if I have something particularly embarrassing to confess. I realize that the priests at my parish are acting in persona Christi, but I know them both personally and that would provide a bit of a stumbling block to a good confession if I needed to unload something sexual.

I do realize what grad stands for but if you are male why did you aim this question only at women? Just curious 🙂 I assume male because of the word “stud” are you a high school graduate or college?
