Hello,
Ok well I am blushing as I type this but I have a question. I am one the pill but it’s not for pregnacy protection at all. (I don’t believe in premarital sex) I take it because my periods are so irregular (Ex. 72 days apart one time and 12 another). I will repeat I am not having sex and it is not for pregnancy protection. I was just wondering if it is ok for me to be on it. Please tell me what you think.
God bless

It is fine if you are using it as medication for a health condition, and you are. It’s fine. If you do get married, though, stop taking it, because the pill is an abortifacient, meaning if you do become pregnant, it keeps the baby from implanting and the baby dies. So just deal with the irregular periods if you get married.

That works for me! Thanks! I just wanted to make sure… you know better safe than sorry.🙂

Rose, on a more practical note, please be very careful about using oral contraceptives and don’t if there’s ANY other option. I was on them for only 3 years; they caused endometriosis (the lining of the uterus grows out of control and attaches itself to other organs) and fibroid tumors that wouldn’t quit. Over a 14 year period I had two major surgeries to remove tumors and finally a hysterectomy. I never got to have kids. My OB-Gyn said the pill had caused the tumors for sure and probably the endometriosis. They’re just not good for us.

Have you heard of the National Center for Women’s Health under the auspice of the Pope Paul VI Institute? They may be able to help you with your health needs so you can go off the pill. Having advised that, though, the others are correct that taking medication for your condition in your state of life is perfectly all right. God bless you as you find the right solution to your needs.

I’m so sorry. That must have been/ must be really hard for you. My thoughts are with you.
(Just FYI I have been kind of paranoid after watching the commercials about all the effects they have and don’t know if I will stay on them anyway.)
God Bless

I’ve been on them for two years because my period causes me to pass out and throw up. It’s been nothing but good for me. It also helps my acne and to stabilize my mood, which I didn’t really notice until I skipped for a month (I was on antibiotic, then I got a job and never had time to pick them up). I’m not saying it’s the miracle pill, but I do think it gets a bit of a bad rep on here sometimes.

Check out Marilyn Shannon’s Fertility, Cycles, and Nutrition – she has amazing insight as to how better nutrition and vitamin supplements can help with some of the problems you’re having.

While your use of the Pill is licit since you are celibate, it’s only masking your symptoms – it’s not curing the underlying condition. If you can, find a good pro-life doctor who will actually treat your condition instead of just throwing the Pill at it to make the symptoms go away (as most doctors do).

FYI, when you are on the pill, what you call a “period” is not menstruation. It is bleeding caused by those placebo pills.

Your reproductive system has been made to not function because of the strong hormones in the pill. Why would you want to make a healty system sick?

You are also passing these hormones to everyone else in the world who does not want to drink them in our planet’s water. I do not want BCPs in me or in my son, but, we have no choice because everyone wants to be on the pill.

So I’m supposed to pass out and throw up EVERY MONTH so you can avoid .0000000000000001 mg of progesterone. You do know that everyone has every hormone naturally, right? And I take the lowest dose available to help mitagate side effects, and so there is less leaving my body. If you want to blame people, blame sexually active teenagers and adults, not the sick people. Do you try to guilt anyone else taking medicine out of taking it? Most meds wind up in the water system. Along with pretty much any chemical we use.

And the system isn’t healthy. That’s why we use the pill. I’m helping to make a sick system healthy.

First Rose, your soooo not alone…I myself get, if I’m lucky, 2 periods a year. Swear. When I was in my teens I thought my body was like, a freak of nature, and that I MUST be infertile, cuz I mean, you ovulate after menstrating…and I hardly EVER menstrate…

since then, I’m 28 now (oh god I just had a birthday and I cant stand typing that) I guess theyve found out that its soo much more common then they initially thought it was, infact, more and more women are having these extremely irregular menstrations- and for no reason except for its their biological chemistry…Like me, I’m perfectly healthy inside n out…

So, in 2004 when I didnt have a period for 5 and a half months I thought nothing of it until I started producing milk (((holy bread you have nooo idea what a SHOCK that was)))

anyways, dont know why i went into all this lmbo…i guess maybe its because, its true, God has a plan, for each of us, and…even though we are different, he will work through us as he see’s fit…and…trust him…if he made your body a certain way…then. … so be it…

I have to admit once I just ACCEPTED that this was the way my body was, life was a lot happier. I didnt feel different, or less than because I thought I couldnt carry life…and I REALLY enjoy being able to MONTHs without bein’ on the rag…and all my girls are totally jealous too lol…

idk, just my 2cents, remember God made you perfect already 🙂

I used to get really irregular periods as well, but then, after looking into NFP stuff and trying to figure out how to track my ovulation, i read that every woman is regular in her own irregularity. Lol… being on birth control will “regulate” you, but it’s not “real.” I’ve had the option of being on birth control, but I am very sensitive to things (such as alcohol and other pills) so I decided to stay off of it.

No, you are supposed to find a doctor who will treat the cause of your illness, not give you a pill that masks the symptoms.

As for the water supply, do the research - see the way infertility is increasing, fish in areas are becoming all female - it is scary what the pill is doing to our water.

Whatever you do, make sure you use “bio-identical” hormones.
I don’t mean “natural organic”. I mean the exact same chemicals that your body produces, even if they come from a chemical factory.

Use 17B-estrodiol or estrodiol valerate (its precursor). NOT Premarin. NOT ethinyl estradiol.

Use Micronised progesterone NOT Provera NOT any of the progesterols.

The synthetics work better, because the body doesn’t metabolise them as quickly. But the breakdown products are different, and there’s evidence some are carcinogens.

Please get your prolactin and blood sugars checked every 3 months when starting HRT for a year, then yearly thereafter. And see an endocrinologist who specialises in women’s health, many aren’t as good in this area as they should be.

All the best
Zoe
(who is endocrinally odd and has had to learn these things for herself)

And what if the cause is that my hormone are out of whack? What then? Then am I allowed to take the pill? The pill is hormone therapy.

The thing is that your hormones being “out of whack” could be a symptom of an underlying condition – for example, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. Most doctors, however, aren’t interested in finding out the underlying cause. If you’re not trying to actively get pregnant, they throw the pill at you because it’s the easiest thing to do.

Again, I really recommend the book “Fertility, Cycles, and Nutrition.” Changes in diet and natural nutritional supplements could help you just as much – if not more – than the Pill currently does.

Well, I have decided to go off of it… at least for a while. However if my periods continue to be super irregular off I wont have a problem going back on. Thanks for all your imput.

To understand how the Pill “regulates” your periods you first have to understand what it does. The Pill contains the same hormones your body produces when you are pregnant. When you take the Pill daily, it “tricks” your body – more precisely, your pituitary gland – into “thinking” you are already pregnant, so that you do not ovulate. If by some chance you do ovulate and the egg happens to be fertilized, it will not be able to implant in the lining of the uterus (the abortafacient effect), because again, your body has been programmed to react as if you were already pregnant.

If you stayed on the Pill continuously, your periods would stop completely. Some women in fact do take the Pill continuously for exactly that purpose (e.g. when they have severe endometriosis or other conditions that can be alleviated by taking a “break” from having periods for a few months). However, most women take real Pills only for the first 3 weeks of their cycle and then take placebos for the last week or so, which allows the lining of the uterus to slough off. This is technically not a true menstruation; it is more accurately called withdrawal bleeding.

The goal of treating irregular or abnormal menstrual cycles should be to restore them to the normal (pardon the pun) cycle of hormonal fluctuations that trigger ovulation followed by menstruation. The Pill doesn’t do that at all; it actually suppresses your cycle and the only reason women on the Pill have “normal” cycles at all is because they stop taking it one week out of the month.

Since you are not sexually active and therefore are not practicing contraception, it would not be wrong or sinful for you to take the Pill. However, if you really want your body to “work” the way it should, you might want to look for alternatives, which other posters have explained. Good luck!

Nothing wrong with it if you are taking it for therapeutic reasons.

I used to have irregular periods (one time I went over a year without one) until I went on natural progesterone cream. I’ve been regular for over 2 years now.

I would suggest looking into this since birth control pills are very bad for the body 😦
