If you walk by somebody and think to yourself, wow hes really fat or something else mean like that but later you regret saying it to yourself. what does this fall under? is it a sin?

Are you making a simple observation, or deciding that because of the negative characteristic you have observed that the person is bad in some way?

It is not sinful to observe and take note of reality. It can be sinful to make judgements about a person’s character based on what you observe.

I say that everytime I look in the mirror. My only regret is that I can see myself laughing…😃

Like the previous poster noted, observations are not sins unless you would pride yourself over others…teachccd

I consider it a breach of my Christian discipline, and I ask God to forgive and strengthen me, as soon as I catch myself doing it. This also applies to lustful looking, and variety of other unChristian thoughts that cross my mind, as I navigate the world.

Observing someone as fat is not the same as lust. That is just a physical characteristic. It’s like saying," Wow, that guy is tall!"

Or even “Wow, she is really very pretty.” One can recognize that beauty without lusting over it.

  1. Observing quantifiable physical attributes is not a sin. Since obesity is a measurable thing, much like “tallness” vs. the average height of people in your area, there is no sin in the observation. God gave us eyes to interact with the world.
  2. However, to then respond to that observation with disgust for that person, or assumptions about how they got that way, their lifestyle or personal character, IS a sin.
