Ok I know that God doesn’t allow contraceptions…except for the NFP?? Well what does God, Bible, and Church state about pulling out???
Just wondering…:confused:

**
NFP is not contraception first of all, it is only information about our cycles that can be used to achieve or avoid conception.

Pulling out IS a form of contraception. It is an interruption of the natural act. In order for a sexual act to be moral, it must end with the man completing the act inside of the woman’s vagina. Pulling out obviously doesn’t allow for that.

This is called the “sin of Onan.” The name pretty much says it all, I think.

NFP is not contraception. When using NFP, the body is always open to the possibility of starting a new life. You are never at any time preventing conception, even when you are having intercourse outside of what is normally a fertile time. “Pulling out,” is contraception, because you are interfering with the natural function of the sexual act, you are interrupting the sexual act for the purpose of contravening the natural outcome of sexual intercourse = contraception.

Genesis 38:6-10
[6] And Judah took a wife for Er his first-born, and her name was Tamar.
[7] But Er, Judah’s first-born, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD slew him.
[8] Then Judah said to Onan, “Go in to your brother’s wife, and perform the duty of a brother-in-law to her, and raise up offspring for your brother.”
[9] But Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; so when he went in to his brother’s wife he spilled the semen on the ground, lest he should give offspring to his brother.

By acting contraceptively, Onan robbed sexual intercourse of its life-giving meaning and acted against the good of his potential offspring’s life. Both his intent and his concrete actions were against life. As a result, Onan received the Old Testament penalty for his crime.

Ok right well then technically couldn’t NFP be considered a form of contraception since, well, it can be used to “avoid conception”?

Hm…:confused:

So then it’s considered a sin as well???

(Avoiding conception is not contraception. We avoid conception for most of our waking moments by simply not having sex.)

**No, contraception is DOING something (using a barrier, removing the penis from the vagina, altering the vaginal environment to make it inhospitable etc). Using the knowledge acquired by learning natural family planning to avoid conception doesn’t require an ACT. It doesn’t require interfering with the natural function of sex. It requires NOT having sex. If not having sex were a sin then we would spent almost every minute of every day committing a sin!:eek:

NF can be used in a sinful manner but the method itself is morally neutral. Just like sex between a husband and wife can be used in a sinful manner (selfish, forced etc) but sex itself is a good thing.**

I hope it helps. As a convert, sexual “rules” were a very difficult thing for me to understand. So hubby and I spent a lot of time reading and learning, and hopefully growing. Deciding to use NFP was a huge decision for us so we spent A LOT of energy on figuring out what is what.**
