Ive got a question. There is this game that I have been playing and it got to a point in the game where one of the guys said something like this “this is like Jesus resurrected compared to that”. Should I quit playing this game. What do you guys think?.

Thanks!

This is not a very good answer, but I say it depends on the context and the meaning the man had. I have heard people, in effect, take the Lord’s name in vain, but thought it was simply a cultural habit. Generally speaking, a venial sin at most.

On the other hand, if the man’s purpose was to ridicule Jesus, I would be out of the game in two seconds.

I don’t know it seemed like more of a joke.
which I don’t like.😦

I’m not completely clear on the situation: is this a video game, where a character uses that expression? Or an online or face to face game where a fellow player used the phrase?

Either way, I think you’ll feel better if you make an effort to let the responsible party know you find the remark distasteful.

But when you look at the actual words, they aren’t particularly offensive: they don’t indicate that Jesus wasn’t resurected, or take his name in vain. It almost appears the words were chosen to step right up to the line of swearing without quite crossing it.

Give the casual profanity that permeates the culture, I think I’d be willing to let this slide if the game experience were otherwise positive.

Well, I picked up a saying from a devout friend of mine, that sounds similar.

“This tastes like dying and going to Heaven!”

There’s no disrespect intended, it’s just a hyperbolic way of saying “This is delicious!”

Could it have been similar? A hyperbolic way of saying something was miraculous?

God bless you,

Ruthie
