Amazingly enough, the Church cleared this up at her first Council - the Council of Jerusalem. It was over the fact that some thought gentiles should follow the Jewish laws.

You can read the entire account of this Council in Acts 15.

Here is what of the old law that we now have to follow, right from Acts 15:

"21
It is my judgment, therefore, that we ought to stop troubling the Gentiles who turn to God, 20 but tell them by letter to avoid pollution from idols, unlawful marriage, the meat of strangled animals, and blood. "
Thank you once more for the information!

Now I have another question… Ok there was a post about this pastor that stated that “we should have more sex” in our marriages…Doubling it up when we fail to have sex with our spouses one day so making up for it the next day…
Ok, so with this in mind…If you are having sex every day or constantly with your spouse, wouldn’t that be considered lust since you are having sex, for enjoyment of your partner??? I mean if you are attracted to your spouse that’s great and not considered lust, but if you are getting pleased during sex, does that make it lust??? Because technically you won’t be giving yourself for your partner if you are having an O during sex with your spouse…causing you to have endless bliss and satisfaction???

   I just confuse myself more!! 😦 Well my mother told me once that back in the days women were only seen and used to create children nothing more, and it was a “sin” for a woman to enjoy sex with her husband…But of course things have changed so much since then…and it’s written in the Bible as well that it’s a 50% thing with hubby and wife…and both must give into each other fully…SO it’s not wrong to enjoy sex with your hubby as long as you are both open to life but it’s wrong to lust over your spouse and want to be satisfied…  So how does that one work…???

  1. *]The pastor in question was NOT Catholic. What he said, however well intended, was not meant to be for Catholics.
*]You have marital relations when you and your spouse have them. There are some instances where things might not work out, where kids get in the way, where your spouse is sick, etc. The Church in Her wisdom leaves that up to the couple, as long as nobody is regularly denying his or her partner the marital act for selfish reasons (and guys can be just as bad as women about denying).

  1. But how do you know if the “marital act” is not based on lust??? For either person…???

I’d read THIS SECTION of the Catechism…

Here’s a quote on lust from that link…
2351
Lust is disordered desire for or inordinate enjoyment of sexual pleasure. Sexual pleasure is morally disordered when sought for itself, isolated from its procreative and unitive purposes.

Bless you, Em!👍

It is not a sin to enjoy procreative, unitive marital sex.
