Today, I asked my parents if we were going to Mass. They said we could go later, but then remembered I had hockey practice at the same time. Because of certain reasons that I wont get into, I knew that they wouldn’t want to go to Mass at 5, and wouldn’t want me to skip practice to go. I’m not able to go myself, I need them to give me a ride. Did I commit a mortal sin?

I won’t be able to do that right away, and I just need to have some idea as to whether or not it is, because I’m scrupulous

Yes, I know you are. That is why I directed you to your priest. Give him a call on the phone for guidance.

Besides the valid point on scrupulosity, there are two other fundamental questions:
  1. Why are you asking your parents “if” you are going to Mass…isn’t the proper question “when”? Or was that just a mental slip? Is no one else in your family a practicing Catholic?
  2. Are you suggesting that hockey practice is a higher priority than the Sunday Mass? If so, why?
Also, you could discuss with your priest how you can prudently avoid not having a ride in the future, he may have some ideas.

May God bless your efforts in the future!
