Is it alright for non-catholics to pray the rosary? Can they fully appritiate the rosary?

Why not? My husband prayed it with me before he joined the RCIA.
I do not think there is a restriction on who can pray it or not. Not
that I heard? So long as it is heartfelt and reverent why not?

I don’t see where it would hurt. My Swedish daughter (exchange student) is not religious at all. However, she went with me to a CWOC meeting where we were learning to make rosaries and we prayed the rosary before beginning our work. She loved it! She said it was beautiful and made a rosary for herself to take back to Sweden. Who knows? This might be the way of opening her heart and mind to God. I send her information in connection with the rosary from time to time so she could learn more about it if she wants to. If you’ve ever watched The Journey Home on EWTN, you see that people are drawn to the Church through many different avenues.

Of course non-Catholics can pray the Rosary, and many do. In fact, one of the very best introductions to the Rosary is a little book called A Doorway to Silence: The Contemplative Use of the Rosary, by an Anglican, Fr. Robert Llewellyn.

Hi Bry,

By the way, Iam delighted that your considering praying the Holy
Rosary!

I ahven’t been a Catholic, for some certain reasons beyond my control. I used to pray the rosary, sometimes with the EWTN at 3:30, sometimes on my own, but sometimes I would feel like I didn’t appreciate it or fully comprehended the prayer and so stopped and decided I would wait until I can start going to a Catholic Church. I recently read a post about a non-catholic and a story about him praying the rosary and I felt like I would like to start again.

I encourage non-Catholics to pray the Rosary! They probably appreciate the beauty of it more than I do.

If someone tells you not to pray the Rosary please ignore them! Pray with all your heart and soul!

Before I became a Catholic, I started praying the Rosary. It’s how Our Mother drew me into the fullness of the Catholic Faith.

I think it was Bishop Fulton Sheen who said something like, “A person who starts praying the Rosary will do one of two things. Either they’ll stop praying the Rosary, or they’ll become Catholic”.

ABSOLUTELY!!!

Please pray the rosary, comtemplate on all the mysteries my favorite are the luminous but it is the sorrowful that really makes my heart cry.

There is also the Peace rosary which is a simple form of the prayer which excellent for the car or when you are doing other things.

Also if you like the rosary pray you may also find that the Chaplet of Divine Mercy will bring a peace to your heart.

There are many other prayers and chaplets that are free to use when ever you want. One that I find very powerful is the pray the HOly name. In any circumstance when you call upon the name of Jesus help is not far from you!

The prayer goes “JESUS” (repeat all day everyday) (throw in as verbs whenever and wherever you want) ie. “I LOVE YOU”, “I TRUST YOU”; “I ADORE YOU” etc.

Peace! 👍

You bet! I think the Episcopal Church has a version of their own, if I’m not mistaken. The only warning would be certain that you understand the theology and reasoning behind it. There is a lot of well-intentioned, but poorly executed, devotion towards Mary. As long as you remember that Christ is Mary’s savior as well, you’ll do fine.

Do you have a link for the Peace Rosary? I’ve never heard of it before.

I prayed it for years before becoming Catholic.

I just want to agree with all the other posts that recommend praying the rosary by anyone, whether Catholic or not. I would also like to recommend a book you might find helpful in appreciating the rosary called “The Seekers Guide to the Rosary.” I’m pretty sure the author is Liz Kelly (I’m not at home, so I can’t check the book to be sure). She is a laywoman and describes what the rosary has meant to her and shares stories of other people who have been touched by the power of the rosary.

The Rosary = The life of Jesus as seen through His mother’s eyes.

My devoutly LDS sister prays the rosary with my devoutly Catholic parents and loves it, because she understands how deeply Christ-centered it is. But she sure wouldn’t want the members of her ward to know!

I was curious about the rosary before converting, although initially I just thoughtI so erroneously that it was no more than the vain repetition of a whole lot of hail marys. But when I started finding more about it and started praying it the more I came to understand that it was the full gospel story. There was no stopping and the more I prayed it Ithe more I loved it giving me greater and greater confidence that becoming a Catholic was the only option for my salvation. The power of the our blessed Mother’s rosary to bring souls to Christ is incalculable.

Many years ago I came across a book written by a Methodist minister about the Rosary. He promoted it and called the book “Five for Sorrow, Ten for Joy”, referring to the mysteries to be meditated on.

I just did a search on that book and found out the author’s name is J. Neville Ward, and the subtitle of the book is “A Consideration of the Rosary”. Unfortunately, it is out of print, and only old copies can be purchased.
