So an update…I went to confession and mass this afternoon. both were serene and joyful. i confessed to the sin of past that was nagging me, namely having shoplifted almost 20 years ago, when I was not practicing my faith at all. The priest did not ask me to give any restitution, though my own intention is to give to charity in a surpassing amount when i am someday able (I’m not right now). With all respect, it sounds like you’re making things unnecessarily complicated. The sin of missing mass is the sin of missing mass is the sin of missing mass. It’s the one sin, no matter how many times you committed it.
It shouldn’t take you weeks to confess this particular sin, it should be a simple matter of naming it succinctly - ‘I missed mass’ - and then give the number of times, or at least a rough estimate - ‘five times/a hundred times/nearly every week for twenty years’.
Just a note: the grace of God is fresh and amazing for me right now. In my younger days I never walked out of confession/mass feeling filled with life and serene, but right now God is really filling me up. It’s wild. ***I just wish the world realized that Jesus is really present in the Blessed Sacrament, for real. He’s there. I don’t know how I never saw before. ***
