questions about confession

ok ok ok… I love confession. i dont have a car as i am under 16 but im starting to go every saturaday. But whats that cathhuolic crches teaching on it agian. So can i pray my sins forgiven?

Our father who art in heaven…
…forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who tresspass agianst us…

so if i pray the our father im forgiven!!! but it says “US.” any way i will still confess my sins every saturaday. even if they are embarissing. i got over that. just whats the teaching and can someone explain this?

Venial sins can be forgiven by praying directly to God, with of course a contrite heart. Mortal sins, which are more grave in nature, can only be forgiven by the Sacrament of Confession. In a confessional, you should confess both venial and mortal because venial sins lead up to a person committing mortal ones.

cant I just pray for these things to be forgiven though. I would still go to confession

You can (and ideally should always) make a sincere Act of Perfect Contrition whenever you are conscious of mortal sin. The Act of Perfect Contrition expresses sorrow primarily because your sins have offended God rather than fear of hell etc. Make sure to include the resolution to confess your sins as soon as you are able.

Sincere Perfect contrition does indeed obtain immediate forgiveness of mortal sins, so if for example you died prior to being able to confess you could go to heaven. Though confession is still required before you can receive Communion.

Its important though, not to let the above exception destroy the rule – it in no way takes away from the serious obligation to normally go to confession** before** receiving communion if you are in mortal sin.
