Questions about demons?

I have two questions about demons, and how they function.
  1. We know demons torture people in Hell. But when they torture souls in Hell, are they doing God’s will? After all, those souls in Hell deserve to be there, in fact chose to be there, and it is up to the demons to punish the sinners for offending God so grievously.
  2. Do the demons like eachother, or gain any pleasure from eachother’s company? Does Satan in fact like his fallen angels, or any of the souls who have ended up in Hell? I keep hearing they hate everything and everyone, but I would think they feel some sort of kinship or bond, whether they are possessing someone’s body, or just roaming the earth spreading error and sin… idk… they’ve all been through a lot together… maybe they do have some friendships? Id kind of hope they do for their sakes…😊

it seems you’re way too interested in these things and if you aren’t an exorcist then i recommend turning your focus on something that won’t hurt you. Nothing good can come from your fascination with the dark spirits that are constantly trying to separate us from God.

  1. Nothing happens without God’s permission–which does not mean it’s His ideal will.
  2. No: friendship requires all sorts of virtues demons are incapable of.
We do not need to know much about demons, just how they can affect us and how to deal with them. CS Lewis described a lot of the ways they can affect us in his book Screwtape. It’s often available in public libraries, as well as in bookstores.

You mean that God can be forced to permit something that is against his “will”?

On the other hand… I keep wondering. Is there a true and tested invocation that would grab a “demon” and yank it over to our world, so we can study them, perform tests on them, and learn about them? The exorcists would be able to perfect their methods to expel them.

Yes, I am aware that they are considered “dangerous”, but I don’t believe it. After all the exorcists are able to deal with them… or so the story goes.

Hi. 🙂 He doesn’t permit wrong action. Wrong action is a turning away from His Will or for those in Hell continuously faced from Him. This is for damned souls who chose, in justice, this choice, rather than Divine Mercy (I think the Pope used that term recently?).

But as others said, why look at demons when we can face the light.

there is a church somewhere that has or had a spiritual ‘thing’ coming from one niche type chapel in the wall. I did a little research on it years later when I remembered about the internet. So I found a small article about something causing a disturbance in a monastery crypt some 30 or more miles from this church. The article simple said that the thing had then been removed from the monastery crypt and placed in this niche chapel in the wall of this church. A few years later I was planning to visit the church again so I looked up their website & there was a news item on this church’s website saying that this particular niche chapel was closed for renovation and that something in this chapel had been removed from it and brought to a different location in the district.

I would be interested to know where the OP gets his information from. Is it in the Catechism of the Church?

Hell to my understanding is the absence of love and it can start right here in this world.

No, I do not on this question.

But that is because the Catechism is silent on these questions.

Im just trying to make sense of these things.

This wasnt in the state of Kentucky…was it?

Your story sounds familiar of something I read years ago, supposedly there was a site, restricted access, which was kept under constant surveillance, it was said to be something ‘truly evil’, and thought to be related to a local church. it was kept underground, and multiple cameras on ‘it’ whatever it was, they felt it was in an ‘inactive/sleeping’ state, but didnt say much more about it, felt like something demonic by the way the story went.

I will try to find the story, they had a few pictures and did list the name of the city, but its been so long, I cannot remember.

Gotta be a protestant church. A demon taking up residence in a Catholic church(active), would be in constant torment, if able to remain at all. Church grounds are also blessed.

It is a faith conviction with supporting reason.

What we know is hell is ruled by the devil. In hell the fallen angels still hold their heirachy, but nothing is shared. Trust does not exist, so each is jealous of what he knows and guards it. They give orders as in command, but all is by force or by trickery, with a reward of degrees of pain. The higher(lower from whatever perspective) do not share what they know to the lower angels. Now, man is to judge angels when he reaches heaven, so in hell the opposite is true. The Devil knows nothing of justice, so what he desires is selfish and for his personal ends. In heaven as on earth, the Lord’s elect do goods that have the ultimate end that merges to a common Divine Good. In hell all endeavors are for an end that is an attempt that to the ultimate offense to God. They are eager to vent their anger on men who are new arrivals. These are actually new inductees into slavery.

There is justice in heaven in it’s pure form, and this is shared on earth as well. So a King that administers pure Justice in his realm of heaven and earth, has a counterpart in hell where there is no justice, fairness, etc and all that stems from this virtue.

All this experienced under the umbrella of that one primary loss, the friendship of God.

So there is good reason to believe it to be true, but as someone who wisely suggested here, we shouldn’t speak of this necromacy too much, rather cherish the fear of the Lord which is true Life and joy.

hi mikekle, no, not kentucky. but it might have one. I don’t want to say which church but in any case if it was that thing which was removed during the renovation then it is not there any more and the article didn’t say where it was taken.
but I might be over there next year and if I see someone to talk to I’ll ask about the renovation.

Doubtful, since their natures are completely devoid of goodness and love. Everything they do is evil. By the way, why would you care about the sake of a demon? Always turn away from evil!

Hi. He doesn’t permit wrong action.
Aha. So the Holocaust was not a “wrong” action, since it was permitted. Torturing innocents to death is not a “wrong” action, since it is permitted. I guess, I have a lot to learn about “wrong” actions.
But as others said, why look at demons when we can face the light.
It should be obvious. No matter how hard one tries, the “light side” does not show its face. Maybe the “dark side” is not that bashful. 🙂 So, do you know any good evocations?

Just like it is “evil” to express your love toward someone in a physical manner while making conception impossible. What a strange definition of “evil”. 😉

To see if they exist or not. I am betting that they don’t exist. But if they do, and we all have a guardian angel, it would be a lot of fun to see them conduct a good fight. What odds would a bookie give for each side? I think that the demon would win, because God does not interfere in the Earthly affairs.

Hi. You have the incorrect word. ‘Permitted’ doesn’t mean what you think it does.

The light is meek and humble. The effects are that it guides and strengthens us in virtue.

Darkness is aggressive and invasive. The effect is that it tempts and weakens us to sin.

Face the light.
