Questions about Doctrinal Development

I have two questions about doctrinal development

Do changes in our understanding of revealed truth propagate backwards?
That is to say, is a doctrinal development discovered recently true regardless of time period?
Is a deeper understanding discovered in the modern era true in all past and future eras?
Do past stages of doctrinal development remain true after the next doctrinal development?

Is doctrinal development a linear progression towards truth?
That is to say, does each successive development build on the last towards a complete understanding?
OR are successive developments (even though based on the same revealed truth) distinct from each other and tooled towards answering unique conditions of their contemporary era?

Our doctrine is modified quite a bit via the involvement of Saints on various continents of the world, after the Apostles performed their tasks. Egypt, France, to name two, through Saints started a writing workshop which Martin Luther belonged to, Holy Scapulars and the Miraculous medal.

There have been many places to go and articles of faith to add if you so desire. Quite a bit changes all the time. Catholics have gone from “kill them for sharing the bible” to “wear a crucifix in public so people know you stand for the continuation of this faith” and backwards to “how dare you teach your child like that, I’ll have you arrested.” Such a variety!
