The guidelines are one small meal and two small snacks not one large meal and two small meals.
I’ve enjoyed listening to that sermon.Take a listen to this sermon on traditional fasting. Yes, we’re getting awfully whimpy.

Actually, if you’re going for accuracy, the wording used is meals for all of them. The guidelines are one small meal and two small snacks not one large meal and two small meals.
Fasting allows a person to eat one full meal. Two smaller meals may be taken, not to equal one full meal.
In post # 39, JM3 posted the rule from 1966’s Apostolic Constitution "Paenitemini" of the Supreme Pontiff Paul VI on Fast and Abstinence which is in effect today and which says “2. The law of fasting allows only one full meal a day, but does not prohibit taking some food in the morning and evening, observing—as far as quantity and quality are concerned—approved local custom.”Haven’t the smaller meals always been called collations? That’s just the french for “snack.” It may have been translated as “meal,” but that’s the traditional idea behind them.
I think you misread that bulletin. It says “But in our liturgy, the church thinks about the Last Supper not as the last thing that happened on Holy Thursday, but as the first thing to happen on Good Friday”.i’m likely sure this has been asked somewhere? but anyway.
what is considered the start/end times for a prescribed(obligatory) fast. (granted it probably should total 24hrs)
midnight to midnight, sundown to sundown , awakening to retiring? (for a non obligatory probably anytime one wishes to begin)
more importantly:
ash Wednesday and good Friday. with the following in consideration:
according to a bullitin found at: holyfamilynewark.org/pdf/308+Holy+Family+April+17+2011.pdf
in regards to the “from the pastor” section:
given when are the times of fasting for ash wed, and Good Friday?Code:it states that good friday is actually starts on the FRIDAY at sundown.{meaning most might be fasting on the wrong day technically speaking} into Saturday not ending before sundown.
Disagree: The Triduum begins with the Mass of the Lord’s Supper and ends with the Easter Vigil – Thursday, Friday and Saturday. While our legal fast is from 00:00:00-23:59:59 on Friday, Good Friday starts with sundown on Holy Thursday and the thee Triduum days are Good Friday, Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday.
Not according to Paschale Solemnitatis. The Triduum starts with the Mass of the Lord’s Supper and ends with vespers on Easter Sunday.Disagree: The Triduum begins with the Mass of the Lord’s Supper and ends with the Easter Vigil – Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Easter Sunday is not part of the Triduum.

- The greatest mysteries of the Redemption are celebrated yearly by the Church beginning with the evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday until Vespers of Easter Sunday. This time is called “the triduum of the crucified, buried and risen”; (42) it is also called the “Easter Triduum” because during it is celebrated the Paschal mystery, that is, the passing of the Lord from this world to his Father. The Church by the celebration of this mystery, through liturgical signs and sacramentals, is united to Christ, her Spouse, in intimate communion.
Disagree: The Triduum begins with the Mass of the Lord’s Supper and ends with the Easter Vigil – Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Easter Sunday is not part of the Triduum.
I think both are correct, each in its own context. Not according to Paschale Solemnitatis. The Triduum starts with the Mass of the Lord’s Supper and ends with vespers on Easter Sunday.
I am corrected. Not according to Paschale Solemnitatis. The Triduum starts with the Mass of the Lord’s Supper and ends with vespers on Easter Sunday.
This is a point I’ve often wondered about. My eating pattern can vary widely and sometimes I’m dieting - and on the other hand, I can also get low blood sugars. I’m insulin resistant, btw, though I wondered about this long before I was diagnosed. When I was still working, if I got low in my blood sugar I would get mentally foggy and very irritable. Sometimes I would get anxiety. Sleeping was one way to endure; I’d go to bed early - and sometimes at midnight I would eat if I was awake. Wimpy? Maybe. Yet I tried to get into the spirit of it as best I could, and I think it’s wonderful that some are able to do it very well. :tiphat:I think I can because if I’m focusing on the reason for the fast, that’s what is important. But I still feel that there is merit in denying yourself and if you are someone who eats like a bird anyway (not me), what difference does one whole meal and 2 small meals make?
For me a stricter fast means the denial is more acute and I am more aware of the fast.
