Here is a site that contains lots of information for people interested in religious life in the Washington DC Archdiocese. I’m sure the information is similar to other locations except for details on how to do it.

A good place to start is talk over your feelings with an Orthodox priest if you can find one. Also, every diocese has a Priest in charge of religous vacations. Contact them.

Most of the orders have websites: you can do a search via terms like Passionists, Capuchins, Dominicans, etc and various web pages telling you about their ministries, their locations and vocations will come up - there are some fantastic websites such as the Franciscans of the Atonement who care for the Holy Land sites, SVD missionary sites, the brothers for Mother Teresa’s ministry etc–if your interests run to more contemplative orders try Benedictines, Camoldese, etc…- the wesites will keep you busy for months!

It’s great that you are considering giving your life to God. There are real differences between religious order priests and regular parish priests. If you are interested in being a parish priest, your diocese will have a vocations director. Most areas have groups of men who meet regularly to pray and discern whether God is calling them to the priesthood.
The religious orders make a lifetime commitment to you, once you are accepted. They will promise to be there for you until death. They become your family. Many orders have their own retirement and hospital facilities. While the secular parish priest tends to be a bit more on his own, both when in active service and in retirement.
