How long should the skirts be for women? Do they have to go below your knees?

How long should the neckline be for women?

A miniskirt does not an immodest or impure woman make :tsktsk:

I used to wear tight, short clothes. It was my style.

I’m now much more modestly dressed. You’ll know you can cause occasion of sin with just a look 😛 while dressed in a boiler suit and full face motorcycle helmet 😛

So, on one level, the dress question is a bit of a redundant one, but on the other hand, I wouldnt wear a low cut backless dress or denim short shorts to church either.

ok for the skirt…
i wear skirts either that are a just above my knees or below my knees if im not wearing tights or stockings.
but if im wearing tights or stockings - i wear shorts (not short shorts or tight shorts - but somewhat baggy denim shorts or cargo) that go to 3/4 of thigh or mid thigh.

then neckline…
generally, i wear alot of tees and tank tops.
so nothing with a deep v unless i wear a camisole underneath. mm…but something like this for the neckline of a tank top is usually what i would wear. abiandjoseph.com/p/306378/essential-tank-tops—black.html

i hope that helps!

I would like to share a little discovery I made recently about this issue.

This is how I am trying to practice to understand it:

God through his genereous heart and sublime love for us, he made all his creatures with sublime beauty. All of them. From rocks, trees, to angels. In fact, they are so beautiful that they can compete with Him in being worshiped.

So why do angels hide themselves. Because they don’t want to compete with their creator. In a sense, they lovingly give back what God gave them as a gift. In the Bible we hear them very often telling human that they are “fellow creature, worship God alone”. This to me explains why they seem to hide and we don’t see them. And when they have shown themselves they usually covered themselves and would hide they glory. And when they show their glory they would show it to people who are mature enough not to fell into temptation (even though sometimes even these saintly people would be tempted).

So I think the same applies to us humans. And I think it is from this percpective that women can dress modestly without feeling that they are obeying blind laws. It is all out of God’s love and the love of fellow creatures…human being. Women are truly beautiful, a look at them makes us man forget about God almost completly. So women who loves God and fellow men should be like holy angels and dress in a way that says “worship God alone”.

So I think it is up for women to evaluate how much attention they take away from God and draw to themselves and adjust accordingly. I don’t think there is a fixed standard even though I heard that you can’t enter in the Vatican (or St. Peter’s) unless you are wearing a skirt which reach below knee level.

God bless

I believe it has something to do with the individual person. There are some who attract a lot of attention and would if they were wearing jeans and a sweatshirt. Others could push the line a bit farther and still not get attention.
(I guess I am lucky in that way being that nothing I could possibly wear would draw undue possitive attention:( )
But instead of worrying about Catholic school rules about dimmensions of clothing. Consider the ammount of attention you are aquiring and is it the right attention.

Hmm…this bring up a question. What should we wear to the beach? All swimsuit I know of, pretty much go up to your buttocks, and shows a lot of frontage and back.

Neither Canon Law nor any of the Defined Doctrine of the Church have a dress code listed.

The key is to be modest, this means different things to different people in different times and different places.

How long should the skirts be for women? Long enough so that when you are standing the child standing next to you can not see your underclothing IMHO. Do they have to go below your knees? If when you sit down you need to tug on the skirt to not show underwear or body parts it is to short. Mid-knee is a good starting place and you can go down from there.😉

How long should the neckline be for women? The neckline should be high enough so as not to allow a taller person to be embarrised to look at your neck. The same rule follows as in the length of a skirt. If you have to tug it up to cover up your body from people talking to you it is toooo low.
Let me give you an example. A couple of weeks ago I had my short 8 year old grandson with us for Mass. The young person that was in the pew in front of us had on a mini skirt and she was quite tall. (she kept tugging at the skirt I think she figured it would make it longer:shrug: )Well our grandsons eye level was just lower then the skirt was high. Poor kid asked to be moved to another seat because he was embarrassed.

Another example is when we were in stadium style seating at a local parish. We were seated about half way up and the lectern was well below us. A young lady was the lector that day and she had on a very nice “sun” dress. Unfortunately the elderly visiting gentleman next to me (not related or known to me) said quite loudly that he could see “down” her dress and why dis she not wear a cover up so this would not be a problem.

In both of these cases the young ladies looked nice. They were clean and well groomed. But, they were not very thoughtful of where they were or where they would be seated or standing and how they were being looked at. Many times it is not about the person wearing the clothing but the person that see you. And lets admit it ladies we dress so others will look at us and like what they see.

No, although if they’re above the knee, it’s probably best to keep them within a couple inches of the knee. My skirt length changes depending on what kind of hosiery (if any) I’m wearing. In the summer, when I avoid hose at all costs, I tend to wear billowy cotton skirts that are knee-length or slightly longer. I’m not a big fan of showing off my thighs (although I wear standard swim suits when needed), and wear knee-length walking shorts or capris. This is personal preference- I see plenty of women in shorter skirts and shorts who do not look immodest. A lot depends on fit and style, as well as the attitude of the woman wearing the garment. But- if underwear is visible, or if parts that should be covered by underwear are visible, the skirt or shorts are too short.

In the fall when I start pulling out my fun opaque tights, I don’t mind if my skirts are a little shorter because the skin is covered. The skirts are still only two or three inches above the knee, though.

If it shows cleavage, you either need to layer a tank under it or choose a different shirt. I’m short and busty, so I often choose scoopnecks or V-necks because these have a minimizing effect, but if they’re too low I add a tank top underneath for coverage.

Swim suits need not be so revealing. There are some very nice things our there that a good for beach wear and still don’t scream “look at my piecie parts” as my grandchildren will say. My daughte found a real nice one. 😉 They all wear the sun screen suits that are sold.

Since I have had melanoma and need to cover if I am out in the sun, I wear the equivalent of a sweat suit to swim. It is not so that people notice me, it is because I want to enjoy the out doors and the water with out endangering my life. This last summer I had someone think I was a radical Islamic (I wear my CROSS on the top) and told their kids to stay away from me.🤷 The suits I found are great brightly colored, they dry quickly and are not baggy. Good for bike riding and hiking also.😉
