I had a few questions about how to obtain a 3rd.class relic
  1. I know that relics can not be bought so where could i maybe find one? I live in the Houston area.
  2. would my parish possibly let me touch something the the reliquery(sp?) of one of the
relics at our parish? Our parish has 7 different relics i believe.
  3. would a 3rd class relic be considered a sacramental or would it need to be
    blessed by a priest?
  4. Kind of a side question: If i submerged an object, say a rosary or cross in holy water, would it then be considered a sacramental or would it need to be blessed?
Thanks in advance to my noob questions 🙂 God bless

With regards to the question about relics in your Parish, you would do much better by asking your Pastor. He is the one who could answer you. Simply drop by or call your Rectory and make an appointment to see him.

Hi Sleepy1,

I have some third class relics that I got at some Catholic book stores. You can get a relic when you give a donation. You are right, as they cannot be sold, but you can give a donation for one.

You can buy Rosaries and Scapulars, and then have a priest bless them. You can find them at Catholic book stores, too.

I never thought about asking my pastor before if I could touch anything to the relics in the parish.

You would have to talk to him about that.

Some items that you receive in the mail may already be blessed. If so, the information that you receive with them will usually tell you so.

You can try Cukierski Family Apostolate online. They sell sacramental a such as Saint relic rosaries, holy oil touched to a relic of the True Cross, Saints holy water. etc. They are 100 percent obedient to the Magisterium of The Roman Catholic Church. Any item they sell will be blessed after the purchase, not before.

If a donation is voluntary then fine but if a donation is required then that is a sale.

HI Thistle,

Perhaps semantics are an issue here? 🙂

Donation=gift.

If getting a relic is conditional upon a donation being given then that is not a gift. It is a sale.
Most third class relics that I see are usually attached to something. Examples include medals, prayer cards, etc. Usually you are paying for the item it is attached to, not the relic itself. If the prayer card/medal is the normal price of a prayer card of the same type, there is no problem charging for it. If the prayer card/medal is more expensive just because it has a third class relic attached, that is a problem.

I agree but that is not what the poster said.
