I have it on good authority that in some regions the local bishop will insist on at least conditional baptism for all converts to Catholicism from any religion that isn’t Orthodox (and in Latin America there are very few Orthodox). They don’t have the time or resources to look for the formula and intent of some obscure house cult which may or may not exist any longer.

Better to be safe than sorry. 😃

That is uncalled for and I am certain NOT what Randy meant. There’s a lot of resentment in that statement that I am sure was not totally induced by Randy……

which begs the question, to where did it come from? 🤷
😉

I don’t know any converts to Orthodoxy personally. My Greek Orthodox friends are family friends and have been Orthodox for many generations going back to Greece. Are you arguing that converts to Orthodox have are unpleasant and unkind towards Catholics?
Not so much unkind (although is some ways, yes), but rather some were very disrespectful of our faith (and I’ve been here long enough to see quite a few of them banned during debates concerning the papacy and/or other Catholic dogma/beliefs).

Oh. I just returned to CAF, stayed away during my pregnancy. I have not seen the disrespectful posts. Don’t forget there are 500 million of them, a dozen on here do not necessarily represent their faith.

That’s why I stipulated “some”, but be that as it may, there were disrespectful posts, otherwise infractions, suspensions and/or banishment would not be necessary.

p.s. And I’m not making assumptions about Orthodoxy based on my experiences at CAF, just differentiating between those Orthodox I’ve met and those I’ve interacted with here on this forum.

I recall a number of Orthodox members were given no reason for their banning, nor did their profiles indicate they were banned. My recollection of the events was not that they were being disrespectful, rather they were being too successful at defending Orthodoxy on a Catholic forum. There are also two Eastern Catholics who found themselves banned despite being the most respectful people I have seen post on these forums.

No reasons were given indeed. There are some rules of the forum that if flouted will necessitate a ban without warning. Onlookers may not know the reason as the offensive posts may have been deleted.

Disrespectful, usage of degrading words and intentionally being untruthful and misrepresenting the belief of another religion are serious offenses here.

An eloquent poster might have gone overboard with offensive posts and thus deserved a ban. These may include Catholic posters.

Whereas implying as much of former members who have no means of defending themselves isn’t. I get it. 🤷

More of the same 🤷
